Atom Tetsuwan

The android boy fashioned after Tobio Tenma (Astor Boynton III in the B/W American translation) by his father, the head of the Institute of Science in the year 2000. Aside from possessing the strength of 100,000 horsepower (later 1,000,000) and the kind personality of a child, he has what are called his "seven amazing powers": jet-powered flight, multilingualism, analytical skills, headlight eyes, super-sensitive hearing, hidden weapons in his back and the ability to tell if a person's good or evil. In addition he has a built-in geiger counter and shortwave communication system.

Makoto Tsumura

Uran

Utama

Female

Astro's cybernetic sister in the manga and anime series Astro Boy, as well as its many adaptions. She is a superhuman android with a naive, tomboyish personality. She is the third robot addition to Astro's family, the first two being his parents. Uran is an extremely mischievous little girl who constantly lands her older brother in trouble. While lacking Astro's weaponry and propulsion systems, she is extremely powerful. Like Astro, she is fully capable of experiencing human emotions (although she is somewhat immature), by being naughty or disobedient, even annoying. 2003 Series: Uran reappears in the 2003 series with the name Zoran, with a slightly altered look, including a more appropiate dress in order to appeal to more western audiences. She still retains her tomboyish personality and cheekiness, however is shown to be more adventurous (which instead often puts her in trouble). She is given the ability to communicate with animals and befriends a bird which she names Houdini, however is often jealous of her brother's powers (such as the ability to fly, as well as his popularity).

Miki Maruyama

Ochanomizu Hakase

Utama

Male

Dr. Ochanomizu, a recurring character in many of Osamu Tezuka's manga, including Astro Boy, can be seen "lecturing" at Narita International Airport, outside of Tokyo, on HIV and safe sex. Dr. Ochanomizu was most famously seen as the mentor to Astro Boy and the creator of Astro's sister and parents.

Hisashi Katsuta

Epsilon

Pendukung

Male

Photon-powered advanced robot who dislikes fighting and cares for homeless children. Created for war along with the other advanced ones, but refused to go there because of his pacifistic beliefs. Arguably the strongest out of the war series, Epsilon uses the Sun itself as his power source, capable of launching various heat and light based attacks, as well as creating photon-shields and manipulating photons. Epsilon is also capable of willingly detaching his own hands and controlling them remotely.

Akiko Hiramatsu

Housuke Sharaku

Pendukung

Ordinarily he had the babyish, weak appearance of a bullied child, but once the Band-Aid on his forehead was peeled off and his third eye revealed, he displayed amazing supernatural powers and a glittering mind. Known as "Assaji" in Buddha

Miki Itou

Rock Holmes

Pendukung

Male

Rock is a recurrent character in Osamu Tezuka's manga series, and he is an important part of Osamu Tezuka's Star System. Rock is a young boy with shiny dark hair. He first appeared in the manga series Detective Boy Rock Holmes, as a child detective. While most of other Tezuka child characters stayed the same age, Rock grew up throughout the years and his character was reused for more mature "roles" in Tezuka's manga, where he gradually developed a darker personality. Often cold and brutal, his character tends to be used as an antagonist, who later, in works such as Phoenix, kidnapped and murdered people. In this older form, Rock is often wearing a three-piece suit, a striped tie and dark sunglasses, the last of which became something of a trademark for him. Best known to American audiences for his dark and violent roles in the Metropolis movie and second volume of Alabaster, Rock is sometimes good, sometimes evil, but always determined, absolute and charismatic.

Fumiya Fujii

Umatarou Tenma

Pendukung

Male

Dr. Tenma (which means "Pegasus" or literally "Heaven-horse" in Japanese) was a renowned roboticist and the Japanese Minister of Science. When his nine-year-old son Tobio died in a car accident, he decided to recreate him as the invincible robot "Atom".

Shinya Owada

Shibugaki

Pendukung

Shibugaki is the schoolyard bully, usually tormenting smaller kids or Tamao. When he first met Astro, he dismissed him as "a stupid pile of micro-chips" and refused to associate with him. As time went on, Kenichi convinced Shibugaki to accept Astro and let him join their gang. Shibugaki is also afraid of ghosts (Source: Absolute Anime)

Susumu Chiba

Tamao

Pendukung

Tamao is deeply intrigued by robotics and science, but can be somewhat of a geek. Upon first meeting Astro, he was fascinated by how the little robot worked. He's good friends with Kenichi and Astro, and a little intimidated by Shibugaki. (Source: Absolute Anime)

Motoko Kumai

Tawashi

Pendukung

Male

Police Inspector Tawashi (a.k.a. Inspector Gumshoe) is a law enforcer and recurring character in the Tetsuwan Atom mythos. Known for his surly demeanor, Inspector Tawashi is a dedicated officer. And he hates robots. He is similar to Inspector Geta in that both always appear as police investigators, and both are known for their dedication to their job. However, while Geta is known for his honesty and uprightness, Tawashi is most known for his suspicion of people. He is suspicious not only of Tezuka villains such as Ham Egg and Lamp, or of ambiguous characters such as Rock Holmes, but is even critical and untrusting of such figures as Astro Boy. The series which contains most of his appearances is Astro Boy, but he also has notable appearances in such series as The Amazing Three, Black Jack, Lion Books, Unico, and Rainbow Parakeet.

Banjou Ginga

Atlas

Pendukung

Atlas in his primary role is Astro Boy’s younger brother, created by Dr. Tenma, the same scientist who created Astro. Although the origin stories of both Astro Boy and of Atlas vary, generally speaking, Atlas is created by Dr. Tenma after his disappointment in Astro. Atlas is as powerful if not more powerful than Astro, with the same super-brain technology capable of thinking like a human. Yet, he does not have to obey the robot laws which make Astro unable to reject and rebel against humanity. Free from Astro’s restrictions, Atlas comes to the conclusion that robots and humans can never coexist peacefully together without robots being oppressed and exploited, so attempts to lead a robot revolution and found a robot nation. In the animated Metropolis (2001) movie, Atlas appears as a human revolutionary leader leading a revolution for the rights of human workers displaced by robots. While this is a deliberate reversal of this original story, it is also a striking example of how Tezuka’s Star System explores characters who tend to fall into the same types of lives regardless of the circumstances they encounter. Although unconfirmed, it is believed that Atlas also appears in Black Jack (1973-83), Chapters “Your Mistake!” (1976) and “Black Jack in Hospital” (1977) as an irresponsible young doctor, who is quick to pawn his mistakes off on others. One of the reasons for this is that his father, the hospital director, is played by Dr. Tenma. (Source: Tezuka In English)
