Karakter & Staf

Belldandy

Utama

Female

Belldandy is unflinchingly kind, patient, and warm, not only to Keiichi but to everyone, without exception. However, this does not mean that she is to be taken lightly; Belldandy is licensed as a goddess first-class, unlimited, and as such is highly skilled. Her power is so great, in fact, that she is required to wear a special earring on her left ear which constantly seals the full brunt of her magical strength. The only time at which she has ever revealed her true strength is during the Lord of Terror arc. At the end of this arc, Belldandy completely reconstructed their home from rubble, mentioning that doing so only took one ten-millionth of her power. Belldandy's capacities and talents are diverse, whether magical or worldly. Not only can she change the appearance of her clothing and levitate (and, by extension, fly) as all full-fledged goddesses are expected to, but she can also teleport through mirrors, speak to and understand animals, "see" people's emotions as auras, heal minor wounds by speeding metabolism, and "speak" to machines. Furthermore, she is a superb cook, and her singing skills are held to be the best in the heavens. She is also incapable of getting drunk on alcoholic drinks, but instead gets drunk with soda (it has to be noted, however, that she's a complete lightweight in this regard. One sip is enough to send her in a drunken rampage—although given her personality, "rampage" takes an entirely different, but no less destructive, meaning). In addition, she is also the top broom racer in heaven, the only one that could rival her is Welsper from hell or Hild the Daimakaichou herself. Belldandy's angel is Holy Bell (Bless餠Bell in some versions of the English manga); her elemental attribute is wind. Like all angels, Holy Bell augments Belldandy's magical powers when called upon, and like all angels, she also reflects her master's current state. For example, when Belldandy falls unconscious after being infected with a virus (in the movie), Holy Bell emerges comatose and covered with crystals that represent the virus. Belldandy does not appear to play a significant role in maintaining Yggdrasil. Rather, she works at the Goddess Relief Agency which deals with granting wishes (forming contracts) with humans, similar to Peorth's work at the Earth Assistance Agency.

Kikuko Inoue

Urd

Utama

Female

Urd is Belldandy's older half sister and is the second Goddess to appear to Keiichi. Urd ranks as Goddess second class, management category limited license, similar to her youngest sister Skuld. She is the Yggdrasil System Administrator and Manager. Though she is much more powerful than her sisters, she could not become a first class goddess because she only wanted power to protect her sisters, not power to protect all beings. Urd shares a common father with her younger sisters, but has a different mother, the Demon Lord Hild. Because of this, Urd is a hybrid of Goddess and Demon, reflected in the half-white, half-black appearance of her Angel, World of Elegance. Urd fancies herself a Goddess of Love, so she comes to Earth to spur Keiichi onward with love potions and well-meaning, but deceitful advice, but as punishment for deserting her post and for using her powers on Earth without authorization, The Almighty banishes her from Heaven until further notice. After being allowed to go back, she decides to stay on Earth instead.

Yumi Touma

Skuld

Utama

Female

Skuld is Belldandy's younger sister and is the third Goddess to appear to Keiichi Morisato. Skuld has a Goddess second class, type one, limited license, a category similar to her eldest sister Urd. Her true age is unknown, but her appearance is that of a girl in her early teens. And even though she is a goddess, she is afraid of ghosts. Skuld is one of Yggdrasil's system debuggers. She compensates for her lack of magic power with her innate talent for invention which is known throughout Heaven. Skuld recharges her energy by consuming ice cream and travels via warm or hot water. She bears the emblem of the future.

Aya Hisakawa

Keiichi Morisato

Utama

Keiichi is a student of the Nekomi Institute of Technology and a member of the NIT Motor Club. One day Keiichi accidentally dialed the Goddess Relief Office. Before he could begin to comprehend what on earth was going on the beautiful Goddess Belldandy warped into Keiichi's dorm to grant him a wish. Convinced his sempais (older classmates) are playing a prank on him as he has no luck with girls, Keiichi wishes for a girl like Belldandy to be by his side forever. Much to his surprise his wish is granted. Ever since, the two have been together. Belldandy's presence attracted a lot of attention not just in the mortal realm. Even though he may seem indecisive and very shy, when it comes to love he is very reliable.

Masami Kikuchi

Toshiyuki Aoshima

Pendukung

Toshiyuki Aoshima is a playboy around the Nekomi Institute of Technology campus and Sayoko's cousin. He is enamoured by Belldandy and tries often to steal her away from Keiichi, going as far as to set up a rival motor club. In the TV series, he and his cousin Sayoko can be identified by the super cars that they drive.

Nobuo Tobita

Peorth

Pendukung

Female

Peorth is always cool and confident, even when faced with difficult situations. Her only emotional confrontation seems to be during her first appearance where her determined and one-minded nature seems to be occupied by trying to fulfill "Keichi's heart's desire". This drive, though, is still controlled by a calm forefront, as she exhibits the intelligent process of constructing an elaborate plan. Peorth also remains confident in her skills, though, and eagerly engages in situations that would be considered immature for her age, going so far as to present herself as arrogant. Finally, she is very business-like and serious when it concerns matters of great importance. She knows how to present herself in an upright, opinionated manner, and never allows external conflicts to get in the way.

Rei Sakuma

Lind

Pendukung

Lind is a Valkyrie, a member of the battle division of Heaven. Like the Goddesses Belldandy and Peorth, Lind carries a First Class Licence. However, unlike the other two, Lind's licence is classified as 'Special Duty, Unlimited,' which denotes her position as a Valkyrie. To date, Lind is the only Goddess who can support twin Angels. This marks her as somewhat unique in heaven as a Goddess of incredible inner strength. However, her vigorous training had buried her true personality beneath an almost impenetrable network of shields and walls. Because she worked so hard training her combat skills, her non-combat magic has been neglected and, as a result, is imprecise - the results of her restoration spells have been confused with enemy attacks. After the Angel Eater incident, she smiled for the first time in a long while, resulting in a small sliver of her true personality to shine through the walls of her long-running, seemingly indifferent, business-like demeanor. In the television series, she does not demonstrate this emotional introversion. Although she is still focused on her duty, she does show a higher degree of emotion. In the manga, Lind is the fifth first class goddess to be introduced, while in the anime she is the fourth. (Source: Wikipedia)

Miki Itou

Hild

Pendukung

Female

Hild, known as the Daimakaichou (Great Demon Leader, Ruler of Demonkind in the dub), and also Urd's (who she refers to as "Urd-chan" (Urdie in the dub) mother. She is incredibly powerful, with her power dwarfing even the combined strength of the three goddesses. In the manga, she makes her first appearance in volume 21; in the season 1 of anime, she was only been seen in shadow, once during a flashback by Urd and another time in the credits for the final episode of the TV series. In second season, she makes her appearance at episode seventeen. Later on, Hild leaves behind an avatar (a child version of herself) who would go on to become a regular antagonist for the goddesses, as well as a direct supervisor for Marller. While this avatar possesses only one thousandth of the true Hild's power, it is still enough to make the avatar a powerful enemy for anyone.

Gara Takashima

Megumi Morisato

Pendukung

Keiichi's younger sister. She attends the Nekomi Institute of Technology (NIT), like Keiichi, as an engineering student. Megumi is also a very skilled mechanic and even went against Skuld in a robot construction contest (the result was a draw). In the manga, she is shown to be a very skilled motorcycle driver, although she claims that Keiichi and Belldandy are better than she is. It is hinted in the OVA that she joins the Motor Club, but in the manga, the movie, and the TV series, she is actually a member of the softball club. In the manga, she also becomes the "queen" (a title she seemingly hates, but lives up to anyway) of the bike racers in the local touge after she consistently beats the previous queen while on her way to school. In the movie, Keiichi also refers to her as "The Queen of Drag Racing." Recently in the Manga she has reappeared at the temple drunk, only to drop crying into Keiichi after being dumped for the third time, after her former boyfriends could not keep up with pressure of dating a local celebrity. This echoes when Sayoko Mishima appeared drunk near the temple after being abandoned by everyone in favor of Belldandy, then falling into Keiichi's arms and confessing her problems. Generally, Megumi acts like a teenager, albeit with a mature attitude about things. However, she can still descend into a far more childish temperament of silly remarks and competition. Her primary concern seems to be advancing in life, although she isn't obsessive about it. This manifests more as a desire to work, and she apparently holds a number of club positions at her college. Belldandy has remarked that she sees a similarity between Megumi and Skuld and that she would like to see Skuld learn some things from Megumi. She also seems to have trouble coping with rejection, as well as a borderline alcoholic, as currently seen when she was rejected for the third time in a row. This trait of consuming alcohol in large quantities seems to be a trait she seems to share with Sayoko Mishima. Megumi also exhibits a certain degree of protectiveness towards Keiichi, although this tends to manifest as teasing. Finally, although she won't admit it, Megumi has a strong respect for Keiichi and Belldandy's mechanical skills. Megumi is presently unaware of the "goddess" status of Belldandy or her two sisters. Yuriko Fuchizaki

Marller

Pendukung

Marller was once the childhood friend of the goddesses who are the main characters, though now she's a demon. Urd and Mara used to be very good friends, but got separated when Urd chose to be a goddess. Though Mara is the arch-rival of the goddesses she likes being with them. Her actual duty is to increase the market share of the demons on earth, her main duty should be signing demonic contracts with humans and her side duties includes ruining the activities of the goddesses, disrupting the efforts of the goddesses and to make them suffer. However, she normally forgets about her main duty and only goes around doing the side duties because she had decided in the very beginning of her appearance that the market share will become 100% when the goddesses are all gone from this part of the market. Mara has two weaknesses: She can't stand good luck charms and she can't stop dancing when she hears rock music (or disco in the Dark Horse English translation). Marrler seems more determined and mischievous than fully cruel. She felt abandoned when Urd chose to become a goddess in full, knowing that it would most likely lead to her having to end their friendship. This past situation and her duties as a demon make her have a slight case of tunnel vision in that she seems to regard ruining the lives of the goddesses a top priority. Despite this she does seem to enjoy the company of the goddesses whenever the opportunity to hang out with them presents itself. In the TV series, Marller is revealed to suffer from insecurity and self doubt due to her inability to increase the demons' market share (due in no small part to the goddesses' presence), to the point of bringing her to tears when Urd tells her that she has no talent. You may see Mara referred to by a number of other names, such as Marller or Marla. Marller is how Mr. Fujishima romanizes her name whenever her name is written out in roman characters, and Marla is how it sounds like when a Japanese speaker pronounces it and is also the romanization used by Geneon Animation for the Mini-Goddess series. In Buddhism Mara is also the name of a demon who tempted Gautama Buddha by trying to seduce him with the vision of beautiful women. Similarly in the series, Mara uses such tactics on Keiichi in her first appearance by using Sayoko to distract him from Belldandy. The reason most Japanese speakers prefer not to pronounce her name Mara is because the word 陰茎, romanized "mara", is Japanese for "penis". (Source: Wikipedia)

He was the one who taught her that it didn't matter if she fell off the first few times she tried, what mattered was that she got back up, and eventually she learned. This coincided with Skuld's magical powers slowly developing - it was revealed that a Goddess' power comes from the power of love others. Skuld started to fall in love with Sentaro, and hence her powers started to develop. Sentaro eventually moves away with his family, though Skuld does not become sad by it, as she claims that despite the distance they will always meet when they want. He returns in the anime at one point after traveling for eleven months, but soon gets caught up in a fight and leaves again.
