Height: 172 cm (5’8”) The beloved and favorite grandson of the once great Roman Empire, North Italy, better known as just “Italy,” can be described as nonetheless, a failure in following in his grandpa’s footsteps and a complete crybaby. He is often called “Veneziano” because he represents the northern half of the country. Considered the official main protagonist of the series, Italy has interacted with a good portion of the cast and is known to be friendly with most of them. He’s rather absent-minded, is always spacing out, and irresponsible, but ever so cheery, kind, and big-hearted, making him prone to crying, whining, and getting offended or picked on at times. Another trait that he seems to possess is his habit of being overly affectionate, going so far as to be quite the “touch-feely” type of person, hugging and kissing people upon greeting and even far into the conversation. Despite his flaws, most of the other nations are usually tolerant of him. His hobbies include art, drawing, designing, singing, siestas, flirting with girls, remodeling German cars, and cooking.

Height: 165 cm (5'5") Japan is a small island nation in the Orient who was once a shut-in (hikikomori) and a member of the Axis Powers, but has come a long way and is now one of the most prosperous nations in the world. He’s known as being serious, mysterious, and quiet, but hard-working, intelligent, and skilled with his hands. Despite how usually calm he is, his anger is said to be extremely frightening, but just about no one has ever witnessed it. Because he was a shut-in for so many years, he doesn’t know much about the outside world, but is always eager and makes an effort to learn. He’s described as acting like an old man or an otaku. When he first became a nation many years ago, he was taken in and raised by China, who considered him as a younger brother. When asked if they were related, Japan denied all connections with China. Japan eventually grew hostile towards China and attacked him with a katana one night, ruining their relationship and thus making them enemies in war. Today, China still seems to care about Japan, even though Japan shows no interest in him whatsoever. Japan seems to get along quite well with various countries, such as America, England, Greece, Turkey, the Netherlands, and others. In return, these countries watch out for him at times.

Height: 180 cm (5’11”) A tall, burly country and one of the Axis Powers, who is constantly being harassed by Italy and his crazy boss (Hitler). He’s lived a life of hardship, and pretty much, it seems as though his life can’t get any worse than it already is. His older brother is Prussia, who lives with him in his house and is also his drinking buddy. Prussia affectionately calls him “West,” but due to his impulsive nature and his habit of buying “strange” things off the net, Germany is usually annoyed with him. However, underneath it all, they seem to have a healthy sibling relationship and care for each other. Often bailing him out, saving him, and anything else you want to throw in there, Germany, although usually bothered by him, considers Italy his best friend. They met during WWI, where Germany proceeded to take Italy captive. Once WWII broke out, Italy immediately became Germany’s ally, which Germany and the other German officers freaked out at when they heard the news. After years of spending time together, they’ve managed to maintain a close friendship and even though Germany seems to have the short end of the stick in their relationship, he takes good care of Italy, more or less like an older brother of some sorts. He has a rather serious, but pessimistic personality (both on and off the clock), and is a total neat-freak and rule-abiding perfectionist who does not tolerate mistakes. His hobbies include walking his three dogs (named “Blackie,” “Aster,” and “Berlitz,” who are just as manly as he is), cleaning, reading, recycling, saving money, and baking. It’s said that all of his pent-up stress is released once he has a beer. Surprisingly, he is completely illiterate when it comes to technology, and relies on schedules and manuals, making him very inflexible. Italy once commented that Germany’s a fan of hardcore BDSM, stating that “…some of the videos even had dogs in them!” Often times, he’s seen wearing a Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (this was left out of the anime adaptation). It should also be noted that he has an underlying respect for Grandpa Rome, whom he idolizes, and although it doesn’t seem to be a hobby of his, he enjoys touring Italy. His human name was revealed to be "Ludwig," but without a given surname. Hidekaz Himaruya stated that "...the fans will find out eventually."

America

Utama

Male · Umur 19

Height: 177 cm (5’10”) A young nation that was once called the “New World,” America is the self-proclaimed leader of the Allies. He has blue eyes and short blonde hair, which was changed to a light brownish-blonde color in the anime adaptation. During his early childhood, he was fought over by France, England, and Finland, a fight which England ended up winning. America was raised by England, and the two had a brotherly relationship, all which went bad after the American Revolution. In modern times, they get along, but are often found bickering with each other or teasing each other. Even though they appear to hate each other at times, they both really care for one another’s wellbeing, and England is really one of the only true friends that America has. Another good pal of America’s is Japan, who is also said to be one of America’s “true friends.” The two often play videogames and watch movies together, and collaborate to create new technology and cars. America seems to be fond of Japan’s culture, lifestyle, and home, going so far as to get excited after seeing the Tokyo Tower and an average neighborhood shrine. Japan is often puzzled by America’s “Western Culture” and was shown taking pictures of his “strangely colored” cakes before. America also has a friend named Tony, who is an alien from outer space. Even though he interacts with aliens, America can’t see fairies, spirits, or other mystical creatures like England can. It was shown, however, that he is able to see them on Halloween, but no other day in the year. It was confirmed that America and Canada are blood-brothers, though it was not stated who was older or whether they are twins or not (a common fan-speculation). Countries, such as Cuba, often mistake Canada for America due to their extremely similar appearance. On some occasions, America completely forgets about Canada’s existence, has no interest in him, and overshadows him, much to Canada’s chagrin. Canada usually becomes furious on the inside because of how he is treated by America, but even so, the two seem to get along with each other alright and have a normal sibling relationship. Most know him for his energetic, cheery, and somewhat hyper personality. He’s rather nosy, impulsive, and cannot “read the atmosphere” (though it was said that he can “assess the situation”), so some nations often get annoyed and disgusted with him. Maybe it’s because of this that Japan and England are his only real friends. His hobbies include archaeology, sports, sketching, games, making movies (especially scary ones), and eating fast food, such as hamburgers. Currently, he’s obsessed with heroes, justice, freedom, strange diets, and weight-loss machines. America is noted as being deathly afraid of horror movies (that he loves, even though they scare him), ghosts, and marmite, and he believes that one can travel to any country around the world by car. He seems to have super, inhuman strength; he was able to swing a buffalo around as a child, he once stopped a car with the heel of his foot, and he once dragged England’s heavy Rolls Royce around for one hour. It was because of England’s cooking (that had no taste whatsoever) that nowadays, America can eat strange colored and inedible looking foods. The small ahoge that sticks up on the right side of his head (by his part) was confirmed to represent the island of Nantucket. His glasses were said to represent Texas. In the manga, his signature bomber jacket is shown having a “50” embroidered on the back, representing the fifty states (in the anime, the “50” was removed). Even though he wears glasses, doesn't actually have a problem with his sight. Hidekaz Himaruya once mentioned that the “F.” in his human name possibly stands for “Franklin,” “Foster,” or “Fuck.”

Height: 175cm (5’9”) A country with an infinite amount of pride who loves beautiful things. He’s gone from being strong, to falling, to rising again, only to become weak once more and has been that way ever since. England and France go way back. The two grew up together, but France was a teenager when England was still a small child, therefore, France took great joy in picking on and teasing him. The two have always argued and competed over trivial and ridiculous things, but they manage to collaborate and get along when they really have to. Italy considers France to be his big brother and addresses him as such even though they were fighting on opposite sides during WWII. Although Italy is affectionate with him, Romano can’t stand him and even hides behind Germany, who he also can’t stand, when France shows up. France is also a brotherly figure for Monaco, and was the one that raised Seychelles. His personality is rather perverted, and he jumps at every chance to make a pass or say a suggestive comment to anyone of any age and gender. His hobbies are wine, singing, agriculture, fashion designing, and sketching, and he loves to tour art museums and boutiques in his spare time. He refuses to learn English because he possesses the most beautiful language in the world. France openly admitted that he’s terrified of computers and Germany, Switzerland, and Russia (plus England when he’s in a rage).

Height: 182 cm (6’0”) The largest nation in the world by area, Russia’s a tall character with an intimidating air about him. He comes off as kind and sweet, but is actually off his rocker, one could say. His hair is light blonde and his eyes are violet, but were colored blue in earlier artwork. In the anime adaptation, his hair was colored beige. Belarus and Ukraine are his sisters. Ukraine basically raised him and Belarus, and was the one that gave him his scarf (which is beige in the manga, but was colored pink in the anime). Belarus is madly in love with him, and wants to marry him. Usually when he thinks about either of them, he becomes very depressed afterwards. In the past, Russia had control over the Baltic Brothers (Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia). The three worked in his house and were the subjects of his torment. He especially picked on Latvia, whom he teased because of his height. Russia also showed particular interest in Lithuania, even forcing him to accompany him on a trip when Lithuania said that he had a date with Belarus that day.

He has a rather serious personality and is very superstitious, but can be immature at times. Food is known as being his first priority in life, and he even complains if food has a certain pattern of tastes and flavors. China is very artistic and can even paint a picture on a strand of hair, but is absolutely terrible at drawing anime and manga. A fan of Hello Kitty, pandas, and other cute things, China has a “friend” named “Shinatty-chan,” who is an old man dressed in a knockoff Hello Kitty costume. China raised Japan and treated him affectionately in the past. Japan eventually turned against him, and attacked him with a katana in the dead of night (which then started a war), leaving a large scar on his back. Hong Kong was also raised by China, but was later taken away from him by England. Although he tries acting like a big brother to the other Asian nations, they never treat him as such. He ends almost every sentence with “aru,” which is a Japanese stereotype for a Chinese accent. When around England, he is noted to end his sentences in “ahen,” meaning “opium” (in reference to the Opium Wars).

Hungary and Austria were married at one time, and Hungary once worked in his house as a servant when the Holy Roman Empire still existed. They eventually got divorced, but it was for diplomatic reasons, not because there were bitter feelings between them or anything of the like. During the times of the Holy Roman Empire, Italy (then Chibitalia) was also his servant. Switzerland and Austria were close childhood friends and were allied under one government, uniting the two countries. Switzerland usually found himself bailing out and saving Austria, who often got beaten up by Hungary. Eventually, they grew apart thanks to their leader who failed to distinguish the two countries from one another. In present times, they try to avoid each other as much as possible and when put on the spot, they deny that they were ever friends. His personality and speech are that of what someone might describe as belonging to a young master of a rich household. Due to this and his stubbornness, you could say that he’s behind the times. He has shoulder length blonde hair and green eyes, but in earlier artwork, his eyes were colored blue. He is best friends with Lithuania, whom he calls "Liet" (derived from "Lietuvos" which means "Lithuania" in Lithuanian). Back during the Middle Ages, they were partners in conquering Europe. The two are very close, but Lithuania seems to have the short end of the stick in their friendship, constantly being dragged around by Poland. Poland doesn’t care if Lithuania ever hates him because he knows that he’ll always like him no matter what. To this day, there is little border protection between the two, still showing a definite sign of their closeness. Poland’s true personality is hidden behind his air-headed and somewhat spacey appearance. He seems to be really tough, but is actually very shy, especially around strangers, and it takes him a long time to get used to someone. However, he is clingy and quite bothersome once he gets to know you. He usually doesn’t think before he acts, is somewhat selfish, and is forceful with his opinions, but is very cheerful. He is used by other countries often, mainly because of his impulsiveness. Eventually, he was divided up by other countries, but kept “rising” back, similar to a phoenix. From this, we can easily see that Poland is quite a strong country. He's also known for having a pretty awesome national anthem. It is apparent that Poland crossdresses as a hobby, and that he talks in a Nagoya high school girl dialect (which is literally just a “valley girl” accent). Also to note is that Poland was originally designed to be female, a role that was later given to Hungary who was supposed to be a cross-dressing male.

Capital: Bern Language: German, French, Italian, and Romansh Switzerland is a country tucked in between the Alps who has the reputation of being an eternally neutral nation. He has blonde hair cut in a bob just above his shoulders. In earlier artwork, his eyes were colored blue, but in more recent artwork and in the anime adaptation, his eyes are colored green. When they were children, Switzerland was close to Austria. Switzerland spent most of his days bailing out and saving Austria, who often got beat up by Hungary. Despite their closeness, bitter feelings arose between them and caused them to split because their boss couldn’t distinguish between the two countries. In present day, the two cannot stand to look at each other, and Switzerland tries to deny that they were ever friends. After WWI, Switzerland saved his neighboring country, Liechtenstein, from starvation. It was later found out that at the time, he himself didn’t have enough to eat, and did not ask to be repaid in any way, saying that it was his duty to help out a neighboring country. Since then, Liechtenstein has been like a sister to him and lives in his house. She’s really the only one that Switzerland is nice to and shows compassion towards. He is very protective of her and often times finds himself doting on her. He has been described as being strong and united, but xenophobic, frugal, and somewhat of a hermit. Most consider him as being peaceful, but are deathly afraid of fighting him because he is known for having the strongest army in the world, is one of the biggest producers of guns and other weapons, and has the world’s wallet in the palm of his hand. Switzerland is also known for being an extremely hard worker, going so far as to not stop a job until the very end when it is completely finished. He has a short temper, but can be gentle and kind when around Liechtenstein. The Vatican once hired him as a mercenary, and it was shown that he has three pet goats named Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch (Switzerland’s famous mountains). Much to Japan’s disbelief, he has stated that he does not “ride magic sky swings or run around the mountains in a milk-maid dress while playing with goats and eating cheese.” Switzerland has also been shown to become somewhat trigger-happy when Italy, who has the bad habit of forgetting to put on pants, runs pant-less across his border and throughout his property. Note: is that the katakana for Switzerland’s name is「バッシュ」 (literally “Basshu”). His first name has been romanized as “Vash” by some fans, but a more accurate spelling would be “Basch,” considering that a German “v” sounds like an “f” in English, which would not match up with the original katakana.

Nation's name: Fürstentum Liechtenstein (Principality of Liechtenstein) Capital: Vaduz Language: German National flower: Lily Height: Unknown Age: Unknown Liechtenstein is a small, soft-spoken country tucked away between Austria and Switzerland. She is very close to Switzerland, whom she looks to as an older brother even though there is no blood between them. Liechtenstein relies greatly on Switzerland, so much to the point where his military protects her. There is no border control between the two countries, therefore any resident of Liechtenstein or Switzerland can travel freely between the two. Switzerland first met Liechtenstein shortly after WWI. Even though she was not involved in the war, she was surrounded by countries that were, and soon famine and poverty struck. Right when she was on the verge of collapsing and losing her status as a country, Switzerland came to her rescue and adopted her as his little sister. It was shortly after this that Liechtenstein came to respect and adore her "brother." Liechtenstein, who wore her hair in long braids, even cut her hair in a short bob just so that she would resemble Switzerland more. She is described as being humble, mature, and surprisingly high-tech. Liechtenstein is always one to clearly and bluntly state her opinions, but she can become very shy at times. She is also shown to be very self-conscious, especially over the fact that she has a flat chest. Once while walking with Switzerland, Swiss military uniform clad, she was mistaken as his "little brother." Because of that, Switzerland took her out shopping for a ribbon of her choice to wear in her hair to make her look more feminine. This blue ribbon can almost always be seen tied on the right side of her head. She also appears to be a very talented seamstress, as shown in a strip of the manga (which was also put in the anime adaptation), in which she gave her brother a pair of frilly pink pajamas that she apparently made especially for him. Although her official human name has not been decided, Hidekaz Himaruya revealed in a blog post that he has considered "Elise," "Erika," "Eva," and "Sisia" as possible names with the possible surname "Vogel." Since the decision has not been made final, fans often render her name as "Lili" (which is derived from Liechtenstein, and is also an altered spelling of the national flower of Liechtenstein, the lily).

South Italy, better known as "Romano," is (North) Italy's older brother who represents the southern half of the country. Italy adores Romano, while Romano usually brushes him off and tries to ignore him. This is mainly because Romano had always been jealous of his brother. Italy was favored more by Spain than he was, he inherited their grandfather's artistic talent, and Italy, according to Romano, looks more like their grandfather than he does. However, amid all the hard feelings, Romano does care about Italy and wishes that he would admire him more. For most of his childhood, he lived with and was raised by Spain, who had controlled South Italy while Austria controlled the North. Romano worked at Spain's house as a maid, but didn't accomplish much because he usually slacked off, slept, or just plain refused to do anything. If he did manage to find himself actually doing chores, he was quite clumsy when it came to doing so. Because Spain raised him, eventually great similarities between their cultures came to be, such as religion, customs, and even Romano's love for tomatoes. Romano always treated Spain very coldly and acted as though he hated him. Spain was always very affectionate towards him, and although Romano will never admit it, he actually cares for Spain deep down and even gets somewhat jealous when he sees Spain with someone else. Their relationship, to this day, is still quite close. Unlike his brother, Romano hates Germany with a blazing passion. Several times, he's tried getting revenge on Germany for hanging around Italy and for making him eat German foods. All of these attempts, unfortunately for him, have failed. He seems to possibly hate Germans in general, something that apparently stems back to his childhood. Romano's philosophy about Germans, as revealed in one strip, is that they are all "uncivilized country bumpkins with bad physiology." It also appears that Romano dislikes France as well. His personality is noted as being "dark," and his outlook of the world is noted as being "bleak and biased," possibly due to the fact that his mafia constantly controls him and leads him around. Romano appears to be tough when compared to Italy, but in reality, he is just as cowardly and weak as he is. He loves pasta and tomatoes, but has a "no-foreign-food" policy, especially when it comes to potatoes and cheese. He acts friendly and nice towards women, but is somewhat rude and unsocial towards men. His hobbies include hitting on girls, siestas, cooking, and farming. It is mentioned that he is a skilled pickpocket, despite being quite clumsy and not very good with his hands. He has the nasty habit of speaking vulgarly, most often saying the words "dammit" and "bastard." When agitated, he makes the random sound "chigi," much like how his brother says "veh." Also to note is that his human first name, "Lovino," means "the wine" in Italian, and his human last name, "Vargas," is a common Spanish surname, not Italian.

He claims that the source of his happiness is the sun that shines over his land constantly. Despite this, it is said that he is very, very scary when angry and that he sometimes comes off as insensitive and totally clueless. Spain also becomes sidetracked and enthused very easily. In the past, he raised Romano (then Chibiromano). He wanted to take Italy (then Chibitalia) but ended up with Romano after Austria took him. It has been shown that he cared greatly for Romano and his wellbeing, despite Romano having seemingly bitter and negative feelings towards him. Spain cared about Romano so much, that he fought off France and Turkey (then the Ottoman Empire) just so that he could remain at his house. He also later spoiled Romano, just to show that he still cared about him when Romano thought that he liked Italy more. He taught Romano everything he knows, thus the reason for the many cultural similarities between the two. Even though Romano no longer lives with him, Spain is still very affectionate towards him to this day and has a very big place in his heart for him. He has a strong attachment to Italy as well, and his ultimate dream is to have both Italy and Romano live together with him. In present times, his relationship with him continues to be very close, so much to the point where Italy still calls him “Spain-niichan” (Big Brother Spain). Also, Spain was the one that gave Italy his nickname “Ita-chan.” Spain used to be an extremely powerful nation who traveled around the world but was then beat up by a young America, pirate England, and the Netherlands, sending him face-first into poverty and wars, and stripping him of his superpower status. But with his easy-going personality, he’s managed to get back on his feet over the years. His dishes consist mainly of tomatoes, tomatoes, and tomatoes, and sweets that are described as not being very sweet.

Sealand was once auctioned off online, and Sweden was the only one that bid on him, therefore, Sealand became his property and “adopted son.” Latvia and Sealand are good friends, probably because they’re both small nations and have a similar physical age. He is proud of his beautiful landscapes and olive dishes, all which were created thanks to the warmth of the Aegean Sea. If you dig around in his backyard, many ancient ruins and other mementoes from his mother, Ancient Greece, can be found. He hasn’t been able to build subways or large metropolitan buildings, which makes him seem underdeveloped when compared to other high-tech countries. It was clarified by Hidekaz Himaruya that the cross that Greece is often seen carrying is supposed to represent Mount Athos. Also to note is that his surname, Karpusi (karpoúzi), means “watermelon” in Greek.

Atsushi Kousaka

Rome Teikoku

Pendukung

The once great ruler of the Mediterranean, as well as the grandfather of Italy and Romano. His eyes are brown (but were depicted as being green in earlier artwork) and his hair is dark brown with two curly ahoge sticking out on both sides of his head, similar to his grandsons. He has tanned skin, but in the anime adaptation, his skin was changed to being fair. It was said in his official profile that he has a lot of “stupid” grandchildren, meaning that his grandchildren failed miserably in following in his footsteps. At this time, Italy and Romano have been the only two confirmed to be his kin, but some suspect that Spain, France, and others may be related, too. Ancient Rome raised Italy and called him his “favorite” grandson. The two had a very close relationship, and when Ancient Rome eventually died, Italy was devastated and refused to become the new Roman Empire due to what ended up happening to his grandfather. Throughout the series, Italy refers to Ancient Rome as “Grandpa Rome” (Rome-ojiichan), and thinks very highly of him. Although he didn’t turn out as successful his grandfather, Italy did manage to inherit his natural talents for trading and art, plus his charm and charisma. Because he was busy raising Italy, Grandpa Rome remained more distant from Romano. This caused Romano to feel inferior and overshadowed by his younger brother. He also became very jealous of him for not only taking their grandfather’s affection away from him, but also because Italy inherited his talents and because Romano claims that Italy looks more like Grandpa Rome in appearance than he does. Despite this, it was shown that Grandpa Rome loved and cared for them both equally, and as shown in the manga, he took the time to visit Romano from heaven as he did with Italy. His close friend and guard was Germania, the Holy Roman Empire’s grandfather. Eventually, although they were inseparable at one time, the two became enemies. The entire truth behind everything that went down during this period in history remains unclear, but it is known that Germania was the one to deliver the final blow to Grandpa Rome. He’s depicted as a strong, handsome, and lively man who had so much love to spread around, that he fell for both Egypt’s and Greece’s mothers at the same time. In the original manga illustrations, he was drawn as an elderly man with a small mustache, but his appearance was later changed to a much younger and nobler looking man. His hobbies included painting, sculpture-making, music, and any other form of the arts. He loved delicious food, beautiful women, and sex. It was mentioned that whenever he saw a strong man, he overflowed with great excitement.

Prussia

Umur 20

Nation's name: Kingdom of Prussia (Königreich Preußen) Capital: Berlin Language: German National flower: Cornflower Human name: Gilbert Beilschmidt Height: 177 cm (5’9”) A now non-existent country that was dissolved by the Allies in 1947. He was born to fight, fight, fight, and avoided marriages at all costs. His hair is platinum blonde with deep violet-red eyes to match, but in early artwork, his hair was colored dark blonde and his eyes were blue. In the past, he picked on Hungary, whom he thought to be male because of her burly personality and appearance as a child. Eventually, the two found out that Hungary was actually female, and since then, their relationship has been somewhat awkward, and because of their competitive childhood (and the fact that they still hold grudges against each other for all of the things that they did to torture each other in the past), they don’t really get along. However, Hungary did mention once that she’d be very lonely if anything ever happened to Prussia. In response, Prussia often shows dismay and somberness whenever he spots Hungary and Austria spending time together. Prussia’s younger brother and drinking buddy is Germany, whom he affectionately calls “West.” After he was dissolved, Prussia moved into Germany’s house and has lived there ever since. You can usually find Germany cleaning and organizing their home, stumbling over and complaining about all of the “weird” décor and other things that Prussia buys. The two seem to butt heads every now and then, but overall, they get along pretty well and Prussia appears to be an affectionate (but terribly irresponsible) big bro. It seems as though he also has a lot of love for Italy. He once took several snapshots of him (and one with Romano in it) when he went to Italy’s house for dinner, proceeding to post them on his blog. Also, he affectionately calls Italy, “Italy-chan.” For several reasons, Prussia hates Russia. At one time, he was completely terrified by him, but currently, he’s not as afraid. This was said to be because Germany is now a very strong and stable country that Russia won’t be able to breach anytime soon, which, when reflecting upon this, was mentioned to make Prussia very proud of his little brother. Although he was generally pretty close with his leaders, no other has ever come as close as Frederich II was with him, whom he calls “Old Man Fritz.” Although he passed away a long time ago, Prussia hopes that Old Man Fritz is watching him from heaven and is proud of everything that he’s done since his death. As far as his personality goes, he’s extremely loyal, and will do anything to become stronger. However, he’s quite arrogant, thinking that he’s better and more “awesome” than anyone else. Germany once said that Prussia has practically no common sense, but really, he has the diligence of a tough soldier; his bad manners kind of cover that up, though. He’s been shown to own a little yellow bird, which often sits on his head or shoulder. Prussia was not aware of this bird’s existence until a “fan” of his blog “sent him an email” about it. The bird hasn’t been officially named yet by Hidekaz Himaruya, but it’s often called “Gilbird” among fans. He refers to himself as "Ore-sama" ( "Ore" in Japanese is the male diminutive of "I," but is considered more "manly" but improper when compared to its "more-polite" counterpart, "boku," which also means "I" in the masculine tense. "Sama" is an honorific used when referring to someone of higher status than the speaker). Another (fanmade) nickname of his is “Gilbo.” Although not canon, it is a popular moniker among fans. His human surname was once rendered as “Weillschmidt” for some time among fans. However, since it does not exist as an actual German surname, “Beilschmidt” seems to be a more proper translation.

Canada

Male

Height: 177 cm (5'10") The "much larger in size, but much smaller in population" country above America. Because of his southern neighbor, he's often overshadowed and forgotten. He speaks English and French. He has an easygoing personality, and is extremely soft-hearted, shy, sensitive, and gentle. It's been said that he's a strong and vicious fighter, but hates violence. He loves ice-cream, a fondness that he shares with his good friend Cuba. His blood brother is America, who has been credited as being the source of Canada's constant troubles and worries, due to his rambunctious behavior. Canada is often mistaken for America thanks to their extremely similar appearance. Because of this, he usually takes the heat for America from other countries. For this, Canada holds a major grudge against America and has tried lashing out at him on several occasions, but usually just can't (for he is somewhat "passive-aggressive"). However, once, he made America cry after pointing out all of his faults for three hours straight. Despite this, they seem to get along. When Canada's not being mistaken for his brother, he's being forgotten. It seems as though his presence isn't even noticed during meetings, and he's usually depicted as being "transparent."

Nation's name: Suomen Tasavalta, Republiken Finland (Republic of Finland) Capital: Helsinki Language: Finnish and Swedish National flower: Lily of the Valley Human name: Tino Väinämöinen Height: 170cm (5’7”) (appearance) Moi moi! Finland is a cheerful nation in northern Europe who seems to be invincible to cold weather and temperatures. He has pale blonde hair and violet eyes, which were changed to brown in the anime adaptation and are shown as being blue in earlier pieces of artwork. Way back when, Finland ran away with Sweden from Denmark’s house. Finland was deathly afraid of Sweden at first, but eventually came to see that he’s actually kind at heart. The two own a dog together, which Finland named “Hanatamago.” Sweden, who was confirmed as being a homosexual by Hidekaz Himaruya, considers Finland as his “wife,” which Finland insists isn’t true. His personality is simple, and he is known as being gentle, honest, and warm-hearted. He works hard at everything, and can display super-human strength during times of crisis, making him better to have as a friend than as an enemy. Finland seems shy and soft-spoken, but is actually quite the talker. His hobbies include thinking up and holding strange festivals (which Estonia, a good friend of Finland’s, often takes part in), spending time in saunas, thinking up jokes (which he uses to lighten the mood with when around Sweden), and eating the infamously repulsive salmiakki (which he finds to be delicious). Often times, he portrays the role of Santa Claus (Santa is traditionally thought to live in the mountains between Finland and Russia). It was noted that out of the five Nordics, he suffered the most hardships in life.

He is often seen wearing bright colored Hawaiian looking shirts, shorts, and sandals with his dark hair tied back into dreadlocks. He loves ice-cream and smoking Cuban cigars, but hates America. In Ginmaku Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White, Cuba and Canada were shown working together to help provide aid to the people affected by the Pict. Although his official human name has not been decided, Hidekaz Himaruya revealed in a blog post that he has considered "Carlos," "Ericemdo," "Jajuan," and "Máximo" as possible first names with the possible surname "Machado."
