Karakter & Staf — The Slayers Next

Lina Inverse

Utama

Female · Umur 13-17

Lina is the primary protagonist and the only character that appears in all incarnations of Slayers. She is an adolescent but very powerful sorceress, with a great love of money, treasure (especially the magical sort) and food. In the anime and manga (but not the light novel) Lina uses overly destructive magic recklessly (but comically), often with little provocation. She is reputed to be an evil, powerful, destructive, diminutive sorceress (the evil part isn't true). She has an older sister, Luna, who is a powerful swordswoman. Although Lina has faced down dragons, monsters, and even Dark Lords with little fear, the mere mention of Luna's name sends her into terrified hysterics. She also suffers from a fear of slugs. In the first episode of the TV series, she introduces herself by destroying a gang of bandits known as the Dragon Fangs. She steals a large portion of their treasure, then sets off towards the nearest town to cash it in for a sizable profit. On the way to the town she is ambushed by the remainder of the Dragon Fangs. However, mere seconds before she would have blasted them to bits, Gourry Gabriev valiantly comes to her "rescue" and they begin their adventures together. In manga, anime and novels, Lina and Gourry do fall in love, but acting on these feelings is an entirely different story. Lina has many different nicknames, one of them being "Dragon Spooker", a name that she isn't too fond of. This is rumored to have appeared because of an incident in the first episode, in which the Leader of the Dragon Fangs’ pet black dragon escapes. Just when it appears that the beast is going to crush Lina (and Gourry, who was knocked out on top of her in a compromising position), it blanches in disgust and steps over her, a blush along its snout, much to her shock, and thereafter rage. However, the nickname was mentioned before the black dragon met her, thus leading to a possible earlier incident. Another nickname Lina encounters is the "Dragon Nester." This comes from a rhyme: "Little girl with little breasts, scares the dragon from its nest." This takes off from a running gag, in which characters constantly comment on the small size of Lina's breasts. She generally takes offense to these comments, and often responds with violence. This nickname only appears in the English dub but small breast jokes are a staple of the franchise. In Slayers TRY, Gourry, Amelia and Zelgadis find out that Lina has an elder sister named Luna. Luna is a skilled and powerful warrior, who later retired and became a waitress in Lina's hometown. When Lina refused to accompany Filia on her quest, Filia handed Lina a letter from Luna that said, "Shut up and do it!", prompting Lina to cower in fear.

Zelgadis Graywords

Utama

Male

Zelgadis is a Chimera of human, rock golem, and blue demon, transformed by Rezo, the Red Priest. Zelgadis travels the land with Lina and company to find a way to restore his humanity. Zelgadis is a very talented individual in magic, sword-fighting, and several other fields, but his forte is definitely his mastery of Shamanism. He is one of the few characters who remains rather cool and serious throughout the series, and is often the only one in the group with a level head, though he tends to get pissed off when things go awry, or when the group mistreats him (like using him as an anchor due to his weight from the rock golem).

Hikaru Midorikawa

Gourry Gabriev

Utama

Male

Gourry is a wandering swordsman who meets up with Lina in the first episode of the television series. He accompanies her from then on. He carries the fabled Sword of Light, originally known as Gorun Nova before it came to the Slayers world. Gourry is somewhat less than scholarly and appears to have serious memory deficit along with ADD, but his skills as a swordsman are unmatched throughout the franchise. A characterization of Gourry from his manga profile is "as loyal as man's best friend but not quite as smart." After he meets Lina he decides to become the "little girl's" unpaid bodyguard (despite his disappointment at his charge's lack of development), and they slowly get to know one another. Gourry's kindness (he spares the life of his rival Zangulus on several occasions), loyalty (absolute to Lina) and consideration for others is clear throughout the franchise, but is not as quixotic as that of the Seyruuns'. While Gourry is deadly with plain steel, he is incredibly powerful when armed with his family's magic blade. He is the keeper of the Sword of Light, a mystic weapon whose steel blade can be detached, allowing the use of an alternate blade made of pure, destructive light powered by force of will. The sword can fell lower-ranked demons on its own and absorbs magic. If magic is cast directly on the sword of the light, the swords power becomes combined with that of the spell. Gourry takes great care of the Sword of Light, and watches it especially carefully to protect the valuable relic from thieving hands, especially those of Lina herself. Lina often tries to trick him into giving it to her by claiming he already promised it to her, but these are one of the few times where Gourry's less than astute (incredibly unreliable) memory is crystal clear. Gourry does allow Lina to borrow the sword in certain extreme circumstances. At the end of the third series, Gourry gives up the Sword of Light so that it and the other light weapons can be protected. In the following book series, he acquires the legendary Blast Sword. Manipulating the magical energies around it, the Blast Sword creates an extremely sharp blade. If not treated with care, it can slice through its sheath, and will sink up to its hilt into the ground below. An enchantment placed on it by the party allows them to change its sharpness to be useful again. Gourry eventually falls in love with Lina. Though he is not as shy towards the notion as the young sorceress, he apparently does not know (yet another thing Gourry doesn't know) how to make a romantic advance.

Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune

Utama

Female

Amelia is a female magician and the princess of the kingdom of Saillune. She is a fighter of justice and her only desire is to fight and defeat evil. She is a bit naive and clumsy, and has a foible for holding weird and dramatic speeches before fighting an enemy.

Masami Suzuki

Xellos

Pendukung

Male

Xellos tends to behave like a playful trickster, answering nearly all questions directed toward him with "Sore wa himitsu desu," literally "That is a secret." He seems to delight in the frustration that ensues with his withholding of information. For the majority of the second season, Xellos acts simply for comedy's sake frequently breaking the fourth wall and addressing the viewers; all the while subtly and even sinisterly advancing the plot. Generally, Xellos' mood can be determined by the state of his eyes. If they are closed, he is acting as the "Trickster Priest," but when he opens them he brings forth the Mazoku. However, on occasion he opens his eyes out of mere surprise (as in the fourth episode of NEXT, when Lina reveals her knowledge of the Pledge Stone). Xellos' true intentions always seem to be a mystery. As a mazoku his main goal is to return the universe into the nothingness of the Sea of Chaos, but near the end of the series he aids Lina and the others in saving the world instead. Even though he tends to manipulate Lina and the others he has saved their lives on few occasions, such as saving Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova from bandits for no apparent reason, and saving Filia during their battle with Valgaav. The reasons for doing so are never given which leads Xellos to be one of the many enigmas of the series. Xellos is extremely loyal to Zelas Metallium and usually acts only if ordered (although at times he has aided Lina's group without having been ordered by Zelas), and it is assumed that he would gladly follow any of her requests in order to keep her pleased, even if he is not pleased with them himself (an example of this is when he was ordered to offer to kill Lina Inverse if ValGaav joined the Mazoku side in TRY). In the novels, the Slayers group generally abhors his presence, while in the anime he is treated as more of a tolerable nuisance. In the anime, Xellos and Lina seem to have a sort of mutual respect for each other. He seems to enjoy the chaos that follows Lina, and follows her for the sake of fun even if he is not ordered to do so. In the novels Xellos seems to be more distant around her, looking somewhat troubled by the fact that Lina, unlike other humans he has dealt with, is able to see the bigger picture of things and is not tricked so easily. Zelgadis holds a powerful hatred towards the Mazoku because in the 2nd episode of NEXT, he had destroyed a Claire Bible manuscript which, the chimera thought, might have contained the cure to his appearance. This naturally does not bother Xellos one bit, even though he is the only one who does not tease Zelgadis about his appearance. When Amelia makes one of her heroic, "justice filled" speeches Xellos listens with amusement and mild curiosity, although they do tend to disturb him at times. When she makes endless comments about how beautiful and wondrous the world and life are Xellos becomes extremely weakened, and even cringes at her minor comments. So great is the effect of these speeches on Xellos that, when forced to fight him, the group has even used one of them as a weapon to render Xellos helpless. Filia is the only being capable of annoying Xellos. Even though he tries to be polite to her, she continues to insult him and call him names like Raw Garbage (namagomi). Xellos likes to tease Filia by the fact that she is part of the dragon race, he makes comments like " Those of the Dragon Race would rather use violence than trying to compromise", or anything along those lines. Xellos seems to have a personal enjoyment of not only making fun of her, but he seems to like tricking her the most. Her hatred towards him comes from the fact that he killed many dragons during the Kõma Wars (War of the Monsters Fall) 1000 years ago. By the end of the series, they learn to tolerate each other and are capable of having at least one decent conversation. Xellos is widely considered to be the most powerful Mazoku under the five lords. As such he is nearly immune to all Black Magic, only the spells that call upon Shabranigdo or the Lords can even faze him; however, he is vulnerable to spells that use the power of the Lord of Nightmares, though given his speed it is unlikely that he would allow someone to cast the spell against him. Immensely powerful, Xellos is capable of annihilating nearly anything using his own power. This is best shown by his destruction of an entire clan of Golden Dragons. However, he tends to underestimate his opponents, leading to himself getting beaten severely by ValGaav. Like all Mazoku, Xellos can teleport anywhere he can imagine by phasing to and from the Astral Side. "Additional information about myself: There is much more to me than just how you see me in Slayers... of course it is a SECRET!"

Sylphiel Nels Laada

Pendukung

Female

Sylphiel is a shrine maiden from Sairaag who excels at white magic. Black magic, however, is not her forte: a running gag occurs when she tries to cast an attack spell in combat, only to unleash either a small flaming carrot that only tickes the enemy, or flimsy ice arrows that fall under their own weight before reaching their target. There is an exception to this: the Drag Slave. After meeting Lina, she underwent intensive training so she could also master this spell, hoping to catch Gourry's attention. As a result, this is the single black magic spell she can use successfully, albeit a bit lacking in control (she always goes full power).

Yumi Touma

Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova

Pendukung

Female

Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova is the princess of the kingdom of Zoana who, along with her father the king, plotted to capture Amelia. Lina, along with Gourry and Zelgadis, saved Amelia then used the Dragon Slave to destroy Martina's castle and kingdom. Enraged, Martina ran off and learned magic so that she could take revenge on Lina. Later, Martina joins forces with Lina and company. Martina is fickle in her love affairs, obsessed with whatever man she happens to see first that day. At the beginning of the series she is hung up on Zelgadis, but her interests switch to Gourry and even Xellos as the series progresses, before settling on Zangulus. She is obsessed with her Lord Zoamelgustar, a monster (demon) god she actually made up. Martina specializes in curses. She is a character that is exclusive to the T.V. series, as she doesn't appear in the original light novels or the manga. In the Slayers NEXT episode where they play "Brass Racquets," the announcer gives her full name which is based on tennis superstar Martina Navratilova. (Source: Wikipedia)

Tomoko Ishimura

Lord of Nightmares

Pendukung

The Golden Lord of Darkness, the Mother of Everything, these are only several of the names used to describe 'her'. Of course, the female designation is arbitrary, the Lord of Nightmares has no gender, in truth, not even a form because she is the Sea of Chaos and the Sea of Chaos is her. It could be said that she is the 'mind' or 'will' of it but that is only trying to pin it down for our limited comprehension. The Lord of Nightmares is an entity much like the Gods and Demons of the various world due to having no real form or gender. Just as they have a human form and a beast form based on what they wish to appear as, she too has two forms. Her human form is that of a frail blonde young woman, however she has possessed Lina's body and even appeared in a copy of her form. Rather than a beast form, the Lord of Nightmares is actually the infinite Sea of Chaos that exists below the the countless parallel worlds which sit atop it on staves. Despite bieng above the Lord of Nightmares, in actuality a small part of the LON exists in each one, and while she can't use her full power in any of the universes, what she can do is still more than enough to make the Gods and Dark Lords alike fear her as nothing can ever be superior to her. There are only two known spells that call upon the Lord of Nightmares. Ragna Blade which creates a blade of chaos that can cut through anything, and Giga Slave which functions much like Dragon Slave, except it summons the LON itself into the user's body rather than just it's power. If miscast Giga Slave can cause the LON to takeover the caster's body and/or destroy the universe. The LON shares the same goal as the Dark Lords to return all worlds to the Sea of Chaos, however because her nature is chaos she is inconsistent. Rather than destroy the worlds herself she is self contradictory, seemingly waiting for the Dark Lords to do it for her. Or if the opinions of Vorfeed and Darkstar are correct, the God and Demon races simply exist to amuse her with thier eternal war for supremacy. LON is also prone to conversing with and beating up the author and Subordinate S(Dark Lord Shabranidgu) with shovels when not bieng so serious.

Gaav

Pendukung

Gaav was the mazoku lord directly responsible for the Water Dragon God (or Aqualord in the japanese version) Ragradia's death during the Kouma War 1,000 years before the current story, but was sealed into his human form by Ragradia attempting to duplicate the seal placed on the Dark Lord by Flare Dragon Ceifeed, the long deceased God of the Slayers world. Gaav has sense lost interest in killing the remaining gods but is still as ruthless as he ever was.He started a war with the other mazoku lords after bargaining with the golden dragons to destroy all thier plans and took advantage of the God Sealing Barrier which required all the other lords to remain in one place and maintain each "corner",having made Lina Inverse a target for his minions to destroy upon learning the Hellmaster sent Xellos to accompany her. Even in such a weakened state even the most powerful magics of the slayers world cannot harm him,and as a mazoku he can retreat to either the astral or material planes at will. His true form is that of a crimson three headed dragon, and the spell Gaav Flare calls upon his power.

Jouji Nakata

Phibrizo

Pendukung

Phibrizzo is the most ancient of the mazoku next to Dark Lord Shabranigdo and the antagonist of the series.Like all mazoku he wishes for the world to return to the Sea of Chaos and will kill anyone who gets in his way regardless of thier alligence. The other mazoku lords despise him,but obey him out of fear.He is known by his title Hellmaster for his power over souls and can literally make anyone die whenever he wishes. As such, the spells which draw power from him deal with the undead. In the past he devised the plan that led to the Water Dragon God's death by creating the God Sealing Barrier and attacking while she was in a weakened state, now his plan is to make Lina use the Giga Slave spell she created as it has the ability to summon the Sea of Chaos into the world.

Kazue Ikura

Zangulus

Pendukung

Male

The owner of The Demonic Howling Sword, and partner of Vrumugun. Zangulus is Gourry's rival throughout Slayers and Slayers Next.

Bin Shimada

Philionel El Di Saillune

Pendukung

Male

Philionel El Di Seyruun is the crown prince of Seyruun. He has two daughters: Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun and Gracia Ul Naga Seyruun (who now calls herself "Naga the White Serpent"). However, Gracia left after Phil's unnamed wife was killed by an assassin. Phil also has two brothers, Christopher Wil Brogg Seyruun and Randionel Seyruun, and a nephew, Alfred Seyruun. Though Phil's father Eldoran Seyruun is technically still the king, he is old, sickly, and bed ridden, so Phil now more or less runs the country. Like his youngest daughter, Phil has a strong belief in justice, and he is also (by self-declaration) a pacifist. However, in spite of this claim, if Phil sees something he believes to be unjust, he will not hesitate to use force. Unlike most of the Seyruun royal family, Phil has no magical powers, but he does have a lot of brute strength. He uses this mostly in the form of oxymoronic, justice-themed physical attacks, such as Pacifist Crush, Kindness to All Creatures Kick, Benevolent Giant Swing, and Goodwill Towards Man Smash. His sheer brute strength is even enough to destroy lesser demons. (Source: Wikipedia)

Masahiro Anzai

Vrumugun

Pendukung

Male

Vrumugun is the name given to a group of copy men created by Eris, who serve as antagonists during the first season of Slayers and the third novel. In the novels, Eris used the Vrumuguns to try and capture Lina Inverse, Gourry Gabriev, and Zelgadis Greywords and bring them to Sairaag. However, she only sent one Vrumugun after them at a time, sending a new copy every time one was killed. This greatly confused Lina and co. at first, because no matter how many times they killed Vrumugun, he kept re-appearing (they had thought that Vrumugun was a single person, not a group of copies). The Vrumugun copies disappeared once their controller died. In the anime, he was grouped with Zangulus as they tried to capture Gourry and Lina. However, while Zangulus was short-tempered and arrogant, Vrumugun was quiet, collected, and took everything seriously. Strangely in episode 18, after Zelgadis kills a group of clones, Vrumugun vanishes and is never seen again for the remainder of season 1. There is much ambiguity as to who the original Vrumugun is, since they never say specifically in any of the Slayers mediums. In the novels, there is evidence to suggest that Eris is the original. She (and possibly the original Rezo) created them, and her last name is also Vrumugun. In the anime, on the other hand, Eris' last name is never mentioned, nor is it ever hinted that she is the original. Furthermore, at the end of Slayers NEXT, we see, albeit only briefly, a person very much resembling Vrumugun at Zangulus and Martina's wedding. It is implied that this person is the original Vrumugun. (Source: Wikipedia)

Milgasia

Pendukung

Milgasia is known to be the leader of the remaining golden dragons who were originally in the service of the Water Dragon King. Upon entering the Valley of Dragons, Lina Inverse and company are found by Milgasia. He aids Lina by taking her (and, in the anime, Martina Xoana Mel Navrachoa who tags along) to see the real Claire Bible so that Lina can learn the truth behind the Giga Slave. Later, in the novels, Milgasia and his elven companion Mephis also join Lina in her travels for a while. Milgasia probably is over a thousand years old as he seems to have first hand knowledge about Xellos and the War of the Monster's Fall. At first, he is worried about Lina and company's association with Xellos, until Gourry (in a typical idiot comment on Xellos's age) allows him the chance to realize he doesn't need to worry about Xellos's influence, since this group is completely not intimidated by Xellos in any way. Milgasia's first appearance is in episode 20 of Slayers NEXT, which roughly equals the seventh novel and manga issue.

Masaaki Ookura

Pendukung

Ikue Ootani

Ruby Eye Shabranigdo

Pendukung

Male

The Demon God of the Slayers Series, Ruby Eye Shabranigdo is the God of Evil, the King of Darkness, the creator of demons and monsters and to cut a long story short, the direct or indirect cause of everything bad in the Slayers World. He feasts on negative emotions and wishes to destroy the world, so that the demon kind could dwell in the Sea of Chaos: the source of all creation. Since he was divided into seven fragments and put into slumber by his archenemy the Dragon God Ceifeed, every demon seeks to either awake him, or to destroy the world on his behalf.
