Negi Springfield

Utama

Male

Negi Springfield is the teacher of Mahora Girls' Jr High School class 3-A (formerly 2-A) with formerly 31 students, now reduced to 30. Negi Springfield is the son of the master mage Nagi Springfield, famously known as the legendary "Thousand Master", and Princess Akira of the Ostian Empire in the magic world. At present, Negi has formed 11 temporary pactio with his students (Asuna, Nodoka, Setuna, Konoka, Yue, Haruna, Chisame, Kazumi, Kaede, Ku Fei, and Chachamaru) and 1 temporary pactio with Theo, which gives him the ability to allow him to use any of his partner's artifacts. Negi specializes in wind and lightning spells (his father's specialty) though he is initially lacking in battle experience. He later trains under Ku Fei in martial arts to make up for his weakness in close combat, advancing very quickly (even learning how to do instant movement, otherwise known as Shundou) and applying a strong magical barrier around himself to avoid damaging his frail body. He eventually becomes a master at using delayed spells as a battle tactic. Due to the training he had with Evangeline and Jack Rakan, his magic and combat capability increases exponentially. Negi also learns and improves upon Evangeline's "Magic Erebea", which absorbs offensive spells into his own body. He also came up with a new spell: "Spell Synthesis: Lightning God Lance Titan Slayer" which is a new high class lightning spell. Negi even manages to use Magic Erebea's ultimate ability by using a magic circle that can stop and absorb an opponent's attack, whether it is magical or spiritual attack, and use it against them; even Evangeline herself could not master this. In the latest chapter, it is shown that Magic Erebea marks have begin to spread all over Negi's body and that Negi has formed a temporary pactio with Shiori, one of Fate's subordinates. His aim is to become a Magister Magi (master mage) and find his father who is currently missing.

Asuna Kagurazaka

Utama

Female · Gol. darah B

Affiliations: Art Club As one of the main characters of the series, Asuna has been known to have quite a short temper and frequently her actions are a bit rash, but at the same time, has some aspects that display her maturity, especially when it comes to doing the right thing. Although at first she really detests Negi, over time she becomes like a big sister role model to him, as she does resemble Negi's cousin, Nekane, in a way.

Akemi Kanda

Setsuna Sakurazaki

Utama

Female

Setsuna is a Shinmeiryu swordswoman from Kyoto who was taken in by Eishun Konoe, Konoka's father and the leader of the Kyoto Mage Association. She is childhood friends with Konoka and her protector. Setsuna spends the beginning of the series being relatively cold to Konoka, wishing to protect her from the shadows due to not forgiving herself for being unable to save Konoka when she almost drowned when they were kids. She does eventually open up to Konoka after the Kyoto arc and begins calling her "Oujo-sama" and "Kono-chan". Setsuna's pactio, Sica Shishikushiro is a wakizashi which she can summon and multiply at will to strike targets like missiles. Due to her training she's also skilled in anti-demon arts and is the one who taught Negi how to create shikigami from paper. Setsuna is a hanyou like Koutaro, in particular a crow. She was expelled from her people because white wings are considered a bad omen, and it was implied by Evangeline that she is an albino using hair dye and contact lenses to appear human. A running gag within the series is that Setsuna and Konoka appear to have romantic feelings for one another, yet Setsuna will deny it whenever she and Konoka are stumbled upon in romantic situations or asked about her preference.

However, Eva remains a cruel, powerful mage in her own right, yet with the sensitivities of her former human life. Evangeline, having the reputation of a coldblooded killer, is feared in the magic side of the world. The legends surrounding her have gained her many monikers such as the Advent of Evil, the Apostle of Calamity, the Doll Master, and the Gospel of Darkness. Sayo Aisaka

Female

Student Number: 1 The helpless and meek ghost of a former student, Sayo Aisaka has low self-esteem and is not skilled at being a ghost, tripping even though she doesn't have feet and being completely unable to scare people, more often frightening herself than others. She is invisible to almost everyone, and her presence goes mostly unnoticed though Takahata had her included in the class registry, with a note to Negi not to change her seating. Sayo has been friendless and lonely for around 60 years since her death, which made her very desperate for a friend, and later attempts to talk to the rest of the class during the preparations for the School Festival. Yuri Shiratori

Haruna Saotome

Utama

Female · Gol. darah B

She is a member of the Manga Research Club; while "Pal" is her pen name, it has effectively become her nickname, with some classmates even addressing her by it. She appears to go through a frantic "crunch time" every month to finish her manuscripts (enlisting the help of Yue Ayase and Nodoka Miyazaki as assistants during these periods); perhaps because of this, she lists "crunch time" as one of the things she likes. Although her specific genre is unknown, she possesses impressive artistic skill and draws very quickly—traits that prove highly advantageous when using her Artifact (Chisame Hasegawa, in fact, considers her speed to be the most astonishing aspect of her ability). She uses her right hand for drawing but tends to use her left hand when thinking or holding objects.

Sawa Ishige

Kazumi Asakura

Utama

Female · Gol. darah O

Clubs: News club reporter for the "Mahora News" Kazumi Asakura is student number three in the class and the class reporter who is mostly seen sporting a large grin. She likes to get the inside scoop on everything that goes on, and is part of the Mahora Paparazzi. Her dedication to digging out the "truth" extends to knowingly working with her friends enemies so long as she gets a "scoop." She is close friends with Sayo, the ghost girl, and often has her spy on people in order to obtain a scoop. She later obtains a doll for Sayo to possess, so that she can leave the school grounds. Her pactio, "Oculus Corvinus", creates up to six small golem cameras that she is able to manipulate and send to any part of the world.

Ayana Sasagawa

Yue Ayase

Utama

Female · Gol. darah AB

Seat Number: 4 Yue is Nodoka's best friend, and is often seen around both her and Haruna. She's short and at times has a blunt way of speaking to people, but is generally a friendly person. She likes to read but (ironically) doesn't like to study, and is one of the Baka Rangers (a name for the 5 worst students in Negi's class). When she finds out that Negi is a mage she gets excited about learning magic herself. At first she shows no romantic interest in Negi, but as time goes by she finds herself developing a crush on him. However she doesn't want to hurt Nodoka, so she tries to keep it bottled up as much as she can. She's supportive of Nodoka and wishes her the best of luck when it comes to her and Negi's relationship. Yue became the 5th person in Negi's class to make a Pactio with him, following Asuna, Nodoka, Setsuna, and Konoka.

Natsuko Kuwatani

Ku Fei

Utama

Female · Gol. darah A

Seat Number: 12 Likes: Training, strong men , Nikuman (a type of Chinese bun containing meat) Hates: Chao and the professor's new inventions (this appears to be a reference to a sonic game) Clubs: Chinese Martial Arts Research Society An energetic, cheerful Chinese girl with very good motor nerves, as well as skilled in Chinese martial arts. Her specialties are Xingyi Quan and Bagua Zhang, though she knows a little Baji Quan and Xinyi Liuhe Zhang as well. Since she won the Mahora Academy Martial Arts Tournament, every morning there's a big crowd challenging her (which she beats them up Akane Tendo style). After the Kyoto trip in volume 6, Negi begins training with her daily, where they share a master-student relationship. However, much like Asuna and Kaede, Ku Fei's skills as a fighter are far superior to her performance in Negi's class. She is known as Baka Yellow of the Baka Rangers, a title given to the five worst students in Negi's class. (Her bad results mainly stem from her inability to learn Japanese properly, often speaking in broken Japanese.) According to Ken Akamatsu, if Setsuna, Kaede, Mana and Kuu Fei (i.e. the "members" of the 3A Martial Arts Elite Four) were to fight without holding back, Kuu Fei would be the weakest among the four, though this is only because she uses no magic, but pure martial arts.

Hazuki

Anna Cocolova

Utama

The only other student who graduated with Negi that has been named. Although she lives in Wales she isn't Welsh, but probably Russian, since her entire name is Russian. A year older than Negi, they have been childhood friends for as long as they can remember, and it was noted by Haruna Saotome that Anya is one of the few people who Negi speaks with informally. It has been indicated that Anya helped Negi pack for his trip to Japan, and her mother was one of the people turned to stone by Wilhelm's attack. During the Legendary Mahora Martial Arts Tournament, Alberio summoned her as she pointed at the cover of the books he was using as his Pactio artifact. She had been working as a fortuneteller in London as an assignment from the Magical Academy before returning to Wales (It is unknown if this was just a vacation, or a permanent return). As of chapter 179, she has apparently come to Japan to bring Negi back to Wales, (under the excuse that Nekane wanted her to), but appeared to explode the moment she arrive on a beach seeing Negi with Asuna...while furthermore behind the position of Nodoka and Yue, both of whom have known feelings for Negi like Anya herself. Anya appears to be a grumpy girl around Negi (often shown frowning), although she also seemed excited at the prospect of him coming back from Japan. She takes an immediate dislike toward Asuna, (partially due to the fact that the older girl has a more developed body), and an immediate liking toward Yue and Nodoka, (due to the fact that they had similar figures as Anya's). She uses fire magic, particularly a diving kick attack, but seems to accidentally set her clothes or hair on fire if she isn't careful. She has also shown a flaming punch. She stay with Negi and his class as they enjoy a short vacation at a beach resort. Apparently, she has an immediate dislike toward the more well-endowed girls in Negi's class and was unaware that Negi has already made 7 Probationary Contracts, while she herself has none. She later finds out about the contracts, much to her dismay. and worse yet, that Negi has far surpassed her in magic, and isn't helpless without her. She along with everyone else are now scattered across the Magical World.

She's not as interested in Negi as most of the other girls, but she cheery and helpful at the same time. She is very lacking in self confidence due to a large scar on her back. She is initially without any real emotions, but after spending time around Negi, she begins to have feelings for him, and show emotions. She spends most of her free time helping people and rescuing stray animals. She strongly fears the idea that she is nothing more than a soulless doll and that she does not have a soul. She is skilled in hand to hand combat, and she is equipped with rocket fists, laser emitters, magic-powered thrusters that can allow her to fly for fifteen minutes, and a tool to undo binding circles. Her body has been upgraded several times, and she is later given a completely new body that looks completely human, unlike her original body's easily detectable parts; she even has a chibi body designed to disguise herself. Notes: obsessed with her own husky voice Clubs: Mahora Cheerleaders Madoka Kugimiya is the serious one of the three cheerleaders in the class. She makes sure that the other cheerleaders (especially Sakurako) do not get into any trouble. She likes gyūdon and silver accessories and generally into Western music (currently is a fan of Avril Lavigne from notes), but hates playboys and is mildly obsessed with her husky voice. Her surname is usually the target of nickname making (which Madoka does not like) from her classmates. During the school festival, she develops a small crush on the teenage form of Kotarou. She has been shown to be very protective of her friends, and especially for Ako, whom she encourages to be more confident. Ironically, she almost got Ako shot when she pressed the shy girl to confess her love for "Nagi" (teenage Negi) in front of an audience during the Live Mahora Concert. Luckily for Ako, and much to Madoka's consternation, she only asked for Nagi's e-mail address. Madoka also takes part in the "Mars vs. Mages" game and is among the first "casualties" (meaning her clothes were blasted off), when she is hit by the robots' strip beams.

She's very friendly and outgoing, but not very smart: she's one of the Baka Rangers (a name given to the five worst students in Negi's class), Baka Pink. A minor character in the beginning of the series, Makie's role is slightly expanded on later on in the manga, where she finds herself having a small crush on Negi later in the series (mainly more so in her finding him cute than an actual crush). Despite her constant being around her teacher, though, she is unaware that he's a mage. In the Negima!? anime series her character is quite different. Although still cheerful and kind, she's now a form of comic relief; she's often made fun of and mocked by her roommate Ayaka. Despite this, though, the two get along somewhat well, sharing a dorm together even.

Clubs: Astronomy Club Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue Likes: Looking after others Dislikes: Loneliness She is a gentle, motherly, and loving, yet strange girl (she seems to have a problem with people calling her "old"). She is a kind person to everyone, volunteers at the daycare center in Mahora City and is in the Astronomy club. She is a good cook, and has exceptional domestic skills. Even though she is very nice, she can be sometimes be equally scary. Shortly after Golden Week, she found an injured dog on the side of the road. She took the dog in, which turned out to be a young half-demon boy named Kotaro Inugami, who had come to Mahora looking for Negi. Unfortunately, Graf Herrman, a powerful demon, attacked Kotaro, and kidnapped Chizuru when she stood up to him. She all but adopts Kotaro after Negi and Kotaro defeat Graf Hermann, and gets him to live in their dorm under the identity of Natsumi's younger brother. Chizuru is extremely courageous, as shown in her encounter and fight with Graf Hermann, where she calmly confronted him for his intrusion and even slapped him when he was about to petrify Kotaro. While Chizuru stays out of the fighting during the mock-battle at the festival, she does take part in the search for Chao late in the conflict, and wins a gift pack for finding her (which she promptly intimidates Kotaro and Natsumi into not disclosing). Her roommates are Ayaka, Natsumi, and Kotaro. Chizuru has the largest breasts in the class. In the Volume 8 character notes and the Negima Workshop, Ken Akamatsu mentions that Chizuru and Mutsumi Otohime from his earlier work, Love Hina, are very similar.

She is currently the 3-A class president and is among the highest scorers on school exams, where she was last seen as ranked 4th in her whole grade. She and Asuna seem to hate each other, with the two often getting into fights, but it eventually becomes clear that they merely have an odd, but surprisingly close friendship that neither is willing to admit to. She is the girl most overtly fond of Negi, though she stands by the position that she is only interested in Negi because he "needs a mother figure". Though she is highly intelligent, she can often be clueless in relation to the events surrounding her. Thus, many of her classmates incorrectly think of her as a fool (even if they won't say so out loud). (Source: Wikipedia)

Her very presence creates an atmosphere of serenity, and she can quickly put a stop to fights even between the hot-headed students in the High School and University martial arts clubs. Satsuki's dream is to have her own restaurant, as she likes making people happy through her food. Satsuki has a unique way of speaking that is shown in the manga by depicting her words without a speech bubble. (Source: Wikipedia)
