Manabu Yuuki

Utama

After losing his father and his brother, both members of the SDF (the Space Defense Force), Manabu decides to join up himself. On the way, he meets up with Louis Fort Drake, another new member of the SDF. He's initially hated by Bruce for his pacifist attitudes and blithe refusal to carry a gun (other than the one he inherited from his father, which also doesn't work), and, like most youngsters, he's a bit of a hothead. Through the various missions undertaken, some of them more peculiar than others, he eventually settles into the role as an SDF member.

Asami Sanada

Maetel

Pendukung

Female

The enigmatic woman who gives the young boy Tetsurou his ticket on the Galaxy Express 999. As beautiful as she is wise, Maetel provides constant support and guidance for Tetsurou throughout his travels. In Leiji Matsumoto's own words: Maetel "is the woman who travels with an adolescent boy's dreams. She's traveled with millions, tens of millions of boys, so far. In fact, there are as many Maetels as there are boys. That's also how she can show up in any story. All boys have met Maetel in different forms of encounter. That goes for Antares or Emeraldas or Harlock, as well. They are all crossed over, and they can all be separate stories on their own. So if you change perspectives, you can make as many stories as you like. The characters of Shadow and Emeraldas, who were girls in their adolescence, have met someone called Maetel, in the heart, from their childhood, or during the time when they were full of dreams. It's a train ride through one's mind, or the train that travels along with one. And each person has a different journey..." Tetsurou Hoshino

Pendukung

Male

Tetsuro Hoshino is a young boy who was born on Earth into poverty, and who wants nothing more than a machine body. He also wants revenge on Count Mecha, an evil man who was given a machine body and now hunts humans for sport, for killing his mother. As a street urchin, Tetsuro has no means to buy a machine body. However, he has heard that at the end of the Andromeda Galaxy, there exists a planet where such robot bodies are given away for free. All Tetsuro needs to do is get a pass on the Galaxy Express 999, the cosmic railway. And one day, Tetsuro meets the mysterious Maetel, who promises to give him her unlimited use pass for the Express on the condition that she be his travelling companion. Tetsuro happily agrees, and embarks with Maetel on an adventure across the stars. When Tetsuro starts out, he is every bit the whiny, immature, selfish child. However, the adventures he goes with Maetel on, the people he meets, and the sights he witnesses cause Tetsuro to slowly but truly grow into a strong, young man. Tetsuro also grows closer and closer to Maetel, and although the nature of their relationship might not be called romantic, they form a very strong bond of love. Though it is never explicitly stated, it is implied that Tetsuro is Captain Harlock's son. The evidence for this includes Tetsuro's mother saying that his father is alive but away for some reason, Captain Harlock's mysterious attachment to Tetsuro, and simple physical resemblance. Akio Ootsuka

Yuki

Pendukung

Yuki technically doesn't have a last name, but she's a sexaroid by designation (a throwback reference to character creator's earliest work of the same name, and a term for the kind of robotic humanoid she's a part of.) She's the medical officer for Sirius Platoon. Her behavior doesn't really give away her robotic origins, but for a good part of the first season, she doesn't really consider herself much like a human, thus avoiding some human mannerisms like socializing, instead choosing to live solely for her duty as the medical officer of the Big 1. However, after having her life saved by Manabu while chasing down a group of wanted criminals, she allows herself to be persuaded to take part in social events. Yuki's personality is generally calm and somewhat withdrawn, but not without a certain sense of curiosity. (Especially after the aforementioned incident.) She doesn't hold her own life much of value, and are prone to making rash decisions in situations of emergency whenever a humanoid life is threatened, dismissing her actions with the reasoning that she "can be replaced if something were to happen". Nevertheless, she seems to enjoy her work, and she did once profess that she had a certain affection for Manabu, whom looked like someone she had known in the past -- possibly her creator.

Pendukung

The main crew member of the Galaxy Express 999. He is an alien being with an invisible body; only his eyes can be seen while he is wearing his conductor uniform. The Conductor prefers to go 'strictly by the book' and frequently cites the Galaxy Express rule book, but occasionally ends up bending the rules and getting into adventures with Tetsurou and Maetel.
