Karakter & Staf — Excel Saga

Excel

Utama

The heroine of the story. She joines ACROSS immediately after graduating from high school. Excel's principal virtues are her energy and loyalty to ACROSS' mission, and her single-minded infatuation with Lord Il Palazzo. Despite this, Excel is incompetent in her position and rarely succeeds in her missions, even by accident. Excel is hyperactive and energetic, and is known to talk so fast and inconsistent that people around her find her difficult to understand, an example being that even though Il Palazzo admires her energy, he states that he has no idea what she's talking about most of the time. One notable characteristic of Excel is that she often talks in third person, even when speaking about herself. Excel also dies quite often, especially in the first episode, and she is being resurrected several times by The Great Will of the Macrocosm. Menchi is her emergency food supply, even though she luckily never actually eats her. While Excel's given name and family name are both "Excel" in the anime adaptation, "Excel" is merely her codename in the original manga. She also uses a false name, Hanako Dosukoi, a few times. Her actual name has not yet been revealed.

Kotono Mitsuishi

Hyatt

Utama

Excel's junior officer, with a penchant for dying and reviving in quick succession. She is noticeably Ilpalazzo's favorite officer, usually receiving lighter punishment and higher promotions than Excel. Hyatt is a rather innocent, naive and sensible woman, often serving as the agent that thinks things through more as opposed to Excel who seems to act on impulse. Although she is rather oblivious to IlPalazzo's mild romantic interest in her, she is well aware of the more rampant romantic intent of their neighbour, Watanabe, who knows her by her alias of "Miss Ayasugi". Omi Minami

Menchi

Utama

"Menchi" is the name given to a small, stray female dog that Excel finds in the street in episode 1 of the anime and decides to bring home with her as an "emergency food supply". Menchi spends most of the series trying to escape from both Excel and Hyatt (who despite her personality, also sees Menchi as only food rations) and even succeeds on a few occasions, but always manages to cross paths with Excel later on and ends up recaptured. While Menchi can't speak aloud, she is shown to understand human language and is absolutely terrified of both Excel and Hyatt, for obvious reasons. Similar to Sumiyoshi, Menchi's thoughts and feelings will occasionally be expressed through text effects on the screen. Episodes 10 and 19 in particular are focused almost exclusively on Menchi, both episodes being modeled after children's stories about talking or otherwise extraordinary animals. The earliest record of Menchi is a flashback in the anime, showing her previous owner - a kindhearted old man who may or may not have taken care of her in lieu of younger owners. Throughout episode 10, Menchi has frequent flashbacks of her previous owner, and longs to find him and be happy once more. Through these flashbacks, it is shown that the old man set Menchi free because he was worried about his own limited time on this earth... it's not until later, however, that she abandons this hope after the old man betrays Menchi and her canine companions, reluctantly returning to Excel and Hyatt at the end of the episode. Her reason in doing so is debated, however, as she continues to makes numerous escape attempts throughout the rest of the series. Menchi also sings the ending credits theme at the end of each episode in the anime, bar the final episode, in which her role is reversed with that of the girl who translates Menchi's dog lyrics in the previous closing sequences. "[Menchi's] breed, though not stated in the anime or manga, appears to be a small Shiba Inu, a baby Akita Inu, or a Hokkaido." (Wikipedia)

Il Palazzo

Utama

Lord Il Palazzo (Italian for "The Palace") as he is formally known by his underlings, is the leader of ACROSS, a secret ideological organisation dedicated to world conquest. Il Palazzo believes that the world has become corrupt, and seeks to conquer it to save the ignorant masses from themselves. In fact, he often prefaces his orders and speeches by proclaiming "the world is corrupt!". A recurring gag during the anime is that, despite all his scheming, Il Palazzo really has nothing to do while Excel and Hyatt are out on missions: he is often seen pursuing surprisingly ordinary hobbies like learning to play the guitar and arranging domino blocks. These notwithstanding, Il Palazzo is no ordinary human being, as testify his yellow, cat-eyes and seemingly supernatural powers exhibited in episode 25. However, in both the anime and the manga, it is clear that Lord Il Palazzo suffers from severe psychological disorders, most notably multiple personality disorder. (Source: Wikipedia)

Takehito Koyasu

Nabeshin

Pendukung

"Nabeshin" is the well-known nickname of anime director, Shinichi Watanabe. Watanabe himself is notorious for inserting himself into anime using his character, Nabeshin. He is the Deus Ex Machina of Excel Saga and a main character in Puni Puni Poemi, and while he does not appear explicitly in Nerima Daikon Brothers, it is almost universally known that the "rental guy" character is one of Nabeshin's incarnations as he, like all of Nabeshin's roles, is voiced by Brett Weaver in the English dub. Additionally, he made a brief appearance in episode 24 of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, and he is also the narrator in "The Road to Becoming a Lady" of the same series. Nabeshin also appears in episode 32 of Hayate the Combat Butler, and has a 1-frame appearance as a mechanic in Eyeshield 21, episode 16. In SKET Dance he had an appearance in episode 8 as a dub director.

Shinichi Watanabe

Koushi Rikdo

Pendukung

Both author of and supporting character in Excel Saga. Appears at the beginning of every episode to give his approval of the mayhem that follows, however, he and the director, Nabeshin, argue more and more as the anime nears it's end.

Ropponmatsu Unit 1

Pendukung

Designed to be a general-purpose, if beautiful, tool for Kabapu, Ropponmatsu (Unit 1) excels in bomb-disposal. After failing in her first mission, she is given an additional form (Unit 2), that of a perky, young cat-girl. In the original manga, only one Ropponmatsu unit is active at any one time; the reason for this is later revealed to be that there is only one central "core" that is switched between the two bodies. Kabapu attests that the core contains the soul of the princess of the lost civilization of Solaria, and he has had the Ropponmatsu body created to house it as part of his plan to destroy all remaining traces of Solaria's technology. Conversely, the anime (produced before this revelation occurred in the manga), has the Ropponmatsus appearing as two distinct entities who frequently cooperate on important tasks. Although they have a tendency to be destroyed on their missions, Shiouji keeps a lot of spares, which play a large role in the penultimate episode of the series). The vast difference between the units leads to some tension between Kabapu and Shiouji: both incarnations of Ropponmatsu have a tendency to fail in the course of their duty, due either to extreme mass (Unit 1) or lack of appropriate functionality (Unit 2).

Norikuni Iwata

Pendukung

Brash, self-centered, and noisily infatuated with Matsuya and Ropponmatsu Unit 1, Iwata is generally disliked but tolerated by his neighbors and co-workers. His tendency to make inappropriate statements towards women and his rivalry with Ropponmatsu Unit 2 often lead to him being physically assaulted. In volume eight of the manga, Iwata suddenly dies of colon cancer, but is promptly resurrected, with his brain given an android replica body by Shioji. There are many theories about his relationship with Watanabe due to the strange attachment he has toward his fellow roommate. Watanabe on the other hand, hates Iwata's guts. (Source: Wikipedia)

Daimaru Sumiyoshi

Pendukung

Daimaru Sumiyoshi, usually referred to by his surname, is one of the three residents living in the apartment next to Excel and Hyatt, the other two being Norikuni Iwata and Toru Watanabe. The three are almost constantly together, appearing throughout the series as one of the many side stories going on behind the main storyline. The ever-silent counterbalance to Iwata's antics and Watanabe's uptight normality, Sumiyoshi has a sensical, but fun-loving personality, and often acts as something of a tiebreaker when disputes break out between the two of them. Most noticable about Sumiyoshi is the fact that he never speaks aloud, instead conferring all of his thoughts through standalone text within the panel or on-screen. This is used as a running gag throughout the series, and is even referenced on occasion by other characters. (Ex. Iwata complaining that he can't read it when he writes it so fast) Sumiyoshi's appearance is that of an overweight, average-clothed young man with a very wide face, glasses that hide his pupils, and a wide, perpetually closed mouth. The facts that his expression almost never changes and his eyes are rarely, if ever, shown are both running gags as well.

Misaki Matsuya

Pendukung

The attractive and intelligent recruit to the Department of City Security, Matsuya is pragmatic and fiercely independent. She is also talented and vicious at repelling Iwata's frequent leers and advances. The manga reveals that she and Iwata were college classmates and that, to her embarrassment, she bears him some genuine affection. She grows closer to Iwata as the series progresses, striking him far less frequently than normal. The only time she seems to feel the need to do so is when Iwata is being idiotic even by his standards, such as trying to track down Excel by telling a young woman that he's looking for "Naked women". She is also one of the few people in the series that has any sense at all. (Source: Wikipedia)

Yuka Imai

Wolf

Pendukung

Wolf is a friend of another dog and a friend of Menchi. He only shows up in the first Menchi's great adventure episode. And then one more time for as a flashback in the second Menchi's great adventure episode.

Gojo Shiouji

Pendukung

Shiouji is the brilliant creator of the Ropponmatsus and of Kabapu's "mecha." The anime constantly suggests that he is a pedophile, but the manga later expands on this to reveal a much more complex back story. Gojo's father, Tenmangu Shiouji, was lauded as one of the world's most foremost scientists, but vanished when Gojo was young. His mother, Miwa Rengaya, suffered a severe behavioral change after Tenmangu disappeared, becoming overtly sexual and showering affection on Gojo, imprinting on him a distorted perception of women. This perception was shattered when Gojo met his young cousin, Umi Rengaya, and was inspired by her purity and innocence. Unfortunately, Umi - who now works at Gojo's laboratory assistant and intern - is now eighteen years old, and lacking in the innocence of her youth, so Gojo seeks has turned his attention to other young girls in the hopes of recapturing that spirit of purity and inspiration. Gojo, in fact, has become an eccentric genius with an affinity for little girls and a capability for creating bomb dismantling robots. Kazuhiko Inoue

Cosette Sara

Pendukung

First encountered in episode eight, Sara is a cute, pink-haired, midget assassin, who disguises herself as an eight-year-old girl to facilitate her work. Taken with Hyatt, she views Excel with derision. Sara was orphaned earlier, and became an assassin to survive. The Great Will takes pity on her and resets her mother at the end of the episode. However, in episode twenty-six, she becomes a special member of ACROSS, having learned that she could not so easily forget her bloody past. It is also confirmed in episode 26, that she is a G-cup.

Akiko Yajima

Pedro Domingo

Pendukung

Pedro left his home in Colombia, South America, to work hard and earn a wage to support his son and sexy wife. Instead, he ended up dying in a horrible fire for which Excel was more than a little responsible. After spending some time as the Great Will of the Macrocosm's boy toy, Pedro escaped and returned home- only to find that his loved ones had already forgotten him and taken up with his neighbor, Gomez. source: absoluteanime.com While he is present, he can hardly even be considered a character in the original manga version, since he only has two appearances, the first of which being in a single panel as more of an easter egg than a cameo. The second time he is merely mentioned by name as an in-joke.

Takashi Nagasako

Excel Kobayashi

Pendukung

The animated version of one of the two singers that sing the opening and closing songs. Represented here as two publicity seeking singers who look remarkably like Excel and Hyatt. The most major episode featuring them is the bowling episode but they also appear several other times such as in the first recap/new years show. Excel Kobayashi is the one in the left of the picture

Space Butler

Pendukung

Space Butler first appears in the second episode of the anime series, Quack Experimental Anime: Excel Saga. Space Butler, standing quite tall, is an old man. Aside from being dressed in violet, and having a wacky mixture of colors for hair, it isn't to hard to guess that Space Butler is indeed a butler. We first meet Space Butler on the mothership of the Puchuu Clan. He just can't stand how cute 'em little Puchuus are, doing their war dance and all. Space Butler is actually on a mission.

Wataru Takagi

Key

Pendukung

The blond bishonen and Visual Kei rockstar messenger sent by ACROSS Headquarters with "special instructions" for Il Palazzo. His beauty, musical skill, and disdainful delivery of Headquarters' message (as well as the message itself) cause Lord Il Palazzo no end of anger and tension.

Takeshi Kusao

Kabapu

Pendukung

A large man with a very strange hairstyle and a gigantic removable mustache, Kabapu occupies a position of extreme and shadowy power which is never fully explained, but municipal leaders defer to his wishes, and he has no qualms about silencing dissent by violence. This zeal is a result of his genuine desire to protect the City from all dangers. His trump card is his newly founded Department of City Security, the civilian front for his Municipal Force Daitenzin, into which Watanabe, Iwata, Sumiyoshi, Misaki, and Ropponmatsu are recruited. Both the anime and the manga suggest that he and Ilpalazzo are old acquaintances. (Source: Wikipedia)
