Karakter & Staf — THE GHOST IN THE SHELL

Motoko Kusanagi

Utama

Female

Height: 168 cm (5'6") Motoko Kusanagi is the mysterious, even enigmatic woman who has led a group of SpecOps for years and was recruited by Aramaki to work for Section 9. Almost nothing is known about her, her origins, birthdate, etc. She could not be older than 60 or so since the widespread use of full cyborgization was not in use until then. She was fully cyborged at a very young age and as she "grew" she went through a series of artificial bodies. This, more than anything, likely contributed to her great ease at controlling cyborg bodies of various types, even multiple at the same time. More mysterious is her incredible ability as a hacker, as she is equally at ease in a cyborg body as she is without one while diving the net; she is also officially registered as a Super Wizard Class Hacker. Her romantic life does not officially involve anybody in the Stand Alone Complex series; however, in the original manga she is bisexual and dates the leader of Section 1 for some time.

Daisuke Aramaki

Pendukung

Male

The wise and powerful Head of Section 9, Aramaki relies upon his many international and corporate contacts to supply his team with the information they need to get the job done. Though he commands a great deal of respect, he is occasionally called "Monkey Man" (in the Manga) by his subordinates (perhaps because of his unconventional hairstyle/face). Seldom directly involved in police actions, he is nonetheless constantly working behind the scenes to coordinate the efforts of his agents, making quick and authoritative decisions and maintaining tight control of Kusanagi.

Kazuhiro Yamaji

Batou

Pendukung

Male

Batou is nominally the second-in-command of Section 9. Little is known about the strange, large foreigner who has been with Motoko Kusanagi for years. He was once American and served in the Special Forces in South America. His amount of cyborg-ization is variable according to the storyline, from his limbs only up to most of his body, second only to the Major herself. Despite the availability of superior eyes, he grew superstitious about his old-style eye replacements, popular with many high-level military operatives. He also retains some residual body-image issues, causing him to continually purchase workout equipment despite the obvious anachronism.

Hiroki Yasumoto

Togusa

Pendukung

Male

Togusa is the newest member of Section 9 and the only one not originally recruited from Kusanagi's team of SpecOps. Recruited from the regular police forces, Detective Togusa (no first name is yet known) has only the most basic of augmentation and no cyberization outside of his cyberbrain. The Major wanted him for his perspective as a real policeman and as an outside opinion so as to avoid intellectual incest within Section 9. Togusa mostly feels inferior to the rest of the team, forgetting to recognize the reason for his inclusion in the group. He is the only member with a spouse and child and he continues to carry his Mateba revolver, although it has been highly modified to fire anti-cyborg rounds.

Yuuichi Nakamura

Ishikawa

Pendukung

Ishikawa is the information warfare/technology specialist in Public Security Section 9. It has not been stated in the series thus far as to the degree that he has been cybernetically augmented, though character dialogue suggests that he is one of the least augmented members of Section 9. His appearance is characterized by a large beard and perpetually unkempt hair, and he is the oldest of Section 9's field operatives. He formerly served with Kusanagi and Batou in South America when they were with the Ground Self-Defense Forces in the Japanese UN contingent. He was one of the earliest members recruited to be in Section 9 and seems to know the Major and her dislikes quite well. He is shown as being in charge of a gambling parlor called Parlor Ishikawa, and on occasion uses the cyberbrains of the old men who play there to complete particularly heavy data gathering, though it seems the men suffer no ill effects or are even aware of their situation. Ishikawa in terms of personality is the most seemingly laid-back member of the unit. (Source: Wikipedia)

Kousuke Gotou

Saitou

Pendukung

Male

Among the members of Section 9 he is regarded as one of the least cyberized. He can handle any automatic firearm with deadly accuracy and precision, but his primary role is as the unit's tactical sniper. His left eye was replaced with the "Hawkeye", a prosthetic eye that interfaces with satellites to allow for shots of incredible accuracy. He is also valued for his ability to think like enemy snipers; on two separate occasions his ability at determining sniping locations impacted Section 9's actions.

Tooru Nara

Pazu

Pendukung

Pazu is an investigator in Section 9. Before joining Public Security Section 9, Pazu was rumored by various police circles to have been a gangster in several yakuza groups in Japan. Pazu is also a known chain smoker within the unit. Upon his first encounter with the Major, he remarked, "I never sleep with the same woman twice." He uses a folding knife in combat. Yuuya Uchida

Borma

Pendukung

Borma is Section 9's resident explosives specialist. He is the only Section 9 operative with similar height and enhanced strength to Batou, though his optics are clearly a different color and might therefore be another model with different capabilities. Both his eyes and his baldness are his trademark features. In addition to his role as Section 9's explosives specialist, Borma often handles the task of rear support. In most assignments, he's the only member to carry heavy weaponry. He also works as the team's resident cyberviral warfare expert, often developing vaccines for viruses within minutes of their creation. He is usually teamed with either Saito for sniping duties, Pazu for general operations and Ishikawa for cyberweb research and viral warfare. (Source: Wikipedia)

Atsushi Miyauchi

Ningyoutsukai

Pendukung

Project 2501, also known as The Puppet Master from the film and manga, Ghost in the Shell is an artificial intelligence program secretly developed by Section 6 of Public Security that develops sapience.

Kikuko Inoue

Operator

Pendukung

Female

The Operators are designed to handle various tasks within the government agency Public Security Section 9, such as operating computers, carrying equipment within the agency's building, and even crewing aircraft. Physically they are gynoids, seen wearing office lady-style suits. In one episode, additional Operators are seen coming out of the walls to replace disabled units during a particularly strenuous task, suggesting that Section 9 has many in backup and that the units are switched regularly. Their physical appearance is of a female wearing an office lady's suit. They have brown hair tied in a pony tail with brown eyes. It should be noted that they happen to be some of the most advanced Operators in the series besides Proto who is a prototype bioroid.

Marie Ooi

Fuchikoma

Pendukung

A Fuchikoma is a 1-man tank (walker/roller) used by members of Section 9 of the National Public Safety Commission. They also appear in slightly altered form as Tachikoma in the anime series. They possess a simple artificial intelligence and can act independently to support their user in combat. When not in use, they exhibit a childlike personality and provide much of the humor in the series, while also being used to elaborate on Shirow's philosophy and ideas. Their AI does not include typical safeguards as they are military hardware, but because they possess emotions, they are closely monitored for signs of instability. The Fuchikomas within Section 9 are synchronized nightly or after missions to share their experiences and allow the entire group to learn from them. Mechanically, they have four legs and two simple hands with three fingers on extensible arms which double as machine guns. The "face" consists of a large main lens and two smaller sensors with a "mouth" below, which is commonly a grenade launcher but sometimes a heavier machine gun. The pilot sits in a hunched position inside a large posterior pod with interface cables leading to the standard ports in the user's neck for direct control, but the Fuchikoma can also be given orders to act without a pilot. They can handle many different types of terrain, and are able to walk up walls, rappel, walk, or extend wheels from their feet to drive. They are also submersible. Fuchikomas were removed from Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell movie, though a large relative of the Fuchikoma known as a "think tank" appears near the end of the movie. In the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, they are replaced by Tachikomas which act similarly, but look different, standing taller, and instead of a single large "eye" lens, they have 4 independent rotating sensor pods with 3 sensors each. The AI of Tachikomas is considerably more advanced. At the end of the TV series Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG the Tachikomas sacrifice their AI's in order to prevent a nuclear detonation. They are replaced by Fuchikoma/Tachikoma hybrids, referred to as Uchikomas. (source: Ghost in the Shell wikia)

Tomoko Kaneda

Nakamura Buchou

Pendukung

He is chief official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of Public Security Section 6, where he investigates various mysterious cases. In an effort to solve the case of 2501 (an illegal hacking program) he frequently locks horns with Section 9. He was part of the original movie, however there is no mention of him in the serie. Nakamura is seen once again in the OVA (Solid State Society), in a scene that suggest the Major was working in freelance for Section 6.
