Kenshin Himura

Utama

Male · Umur 28

Height: 158 cm Kenshin Himura, also known throughout the anime as Hitokiri Battousai (Battousai the Manslayer) or Himura the Battousai, is the main character of the series Rurouni Kenshin. His original name was Shinta (心太). His parents died of cholera when he was very young and as a result, was adopted by three slave women in a traveling slave wagon. Soon after meeting them, bandits had raided the convoy and killed his three new guardians and where about to kill him when Seijuro Hiko killed the bandits. Hiko soon adopted the child and because Shinta was not a name fitted for a swordman, he renamed him Kenshin, meaning "Heart of Sword," took him under his wing and taught him the Hiten Mitsuruugi Ryu. The next time we see Kenshin is 10 years later as he has become a wanderer who helps out anyone in need who is suffering right before his eyes. Those long 10 years have taken him from Kyoto, all over Japan to where we find him in episode one of the anime, in Tokyo, still keeping his vow never to kill again. It is here where he meets Kaoru Kamiya and his whole life begins to change once again. Kenshin is usually depicted as a care-free swordsman who is very aloof and tends to be a bit simple-minded when it comes to living normally. He is seen to be doing many of the chores around the dojo that he stays at with Kaoru, (i.e., cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.). He believes it is his way of repaying Kaoru with allowing him to stay at her dojo. (although it seems he has gotten attracted to Kaoru in the end). However, his swordsmanship ranks among the elite as he is seen defeating every rival (with the exception of Hajime Saitou which ended in a draw). His battle senses are top-notch and he recognizes even the slightest of advantages, strategies and tactics during a sword battle.

Aoshi Shinomori

Pendukung

Male

Shinomori Aoshi was raised a ninja of the Oniwabanshū, who worked for the Shogunate government during the Edo period. He helped to raise Makimachi Misao from childhood as a member of the Oniwabanshū. After the revolution, since a few members of the Oniwabanshū were unable to adapt to life in the Meiji era, Aoshi and these members worked for the corrupt, power-hungry business man, Takeda Kanryū instead. Aoshi's subordinates included Beshimi, who specialised in darts and poison; Hyotoko, whose name literally means "Fire Man" and uses flint-and-steel teeth to breathe fire; Han'nya, a skilled martial artist, deft ninjutsu practitioner and Aoshi's student; and Shikijou, a "muscle man". Aoshi himself remains an enigma. He rarely (if ever) shows emotions in or out of a battle. His weapon in the beginning of the series involved only one kodachi (in combination with martial arts). However, after his defeat at Himura Kenshin's hands at Kanryu's mansion, he dedicated himself fully to revenge for the sake of his fallen comrades. When Aoshi next appears, he uses double-kodachi, and seems to have fully disregarded his emotions in order to kill Himura. They fight at Shishio Makoto's mansion in order to settle the score, and upon the battle's break, Aoshi realizes where he went wrong, and becomes somewhat of an ally.

Hajime Saitou

Pendukung

Male · Umur 34

Hajime Saitou is loosely based on the real third-squad captain of the Shinsengumi. During the Meiji era, he lived as a police officer under the name of Gorou Fujita. In the Rurouni Kenshin series, he plays the role of Kenshin's old rival and enemy from the Bakumatsu. He has no compassion or mercy for his enemies and he lives by the Shinsengumi code "Aku Soku Zan (悪即斬)," literally "Slay Evil Immediately," but more poetically rendered as "Swift Death To Evil." His signature technique is the Gatotsu, a left-handed thrust and a variation of the Hirazuki technique developed by Toshizou Hijikata, the Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi. Although the Gatotsu is a fictional technique only found within the Rurouni Kenshin series, the Hirazuki is a real technique that was used by many of the Shinsengumi members.

Souzou Sagara

Based on the actual captain, Sagara Sōzō (1839 - 1868) was the leader of the Sekihōtai's First Troop. Sanosuke looked up to him greatly; he was, to Sanosuke, the ideal role model. He was killed when the Meiji government purged the Sekihōtai, leading to Sanosuke's embitterment towards it. His head was placed on a platform and in a cage for all to see, it haunts Sano still to this very day. Sometime after his death, Sano took his name and became Sagara Sanosuke. Kurogasa, otherwise known as Udou Jin-e, was a hitokiri during the Revolution, and there is evidence he continued killing people well after the end of the Revolution. He attacked high-ranking Imperialist officials of the Meiji government (leading some to believe he fought for the Tokugawa shogunate during the war, since he did state that he was a member of the Shinsengumi, though his thirst for blood led him to killing members of his own squad), killing anyone who stood in his way. He appears as a man dressed in a long scarf, straw hat, and long kimono, and has a unique ability to project his "swordsman's spirit" toward people, hypnotizing them with his eyes (known as the Shin no Ippo). It can also be used to strengthen himself. Kurogasa is obsessed with defeating the famous Hitokiri Battousai (Himura Kenshin) when he meets him during Kurogasa's attempted assassination of Mr. Tani, a government official. He leaves, stating that if Kenshin cannot fight him to his fullest potential, he doesn't want to fight him at all. Kurogasa ends up kidnapping Kamiya Kaoru the next day, in an effort to force Kenshin to once again become a hitokiri. Kenshin follows Kurogasa's trail to the forest, where the two duel once again. Despite Kaoru's life being in danger, Kenshin still didn't fight with the intent to kill, and Kurogasa overwhelmed him. Not wanting to settle for Kenshin holding back Kurogasa paralyzes Kaoru so she cannot breathe using his Shin no Ippo, the two resume the battle. Kenshin eventually becomes angry enough to turn back into the Hitokiri Battosai, and completely overwhelms him, braking his arm. Kenshin raises his sword to kill him, as Kurogasa looks on gleefully, but Kaoru's pleading for him to stop releases Kenshin from his Battousai spell. Kenshin then frees Kaoru, while Kurogasa picks up his sword with his other hand, and stabs himself in the heart. (wikipedia)

Hannya

Pendukung

Male

Hannya is a pupil of Aoshi. The village he was born in was poor, so he was abandoned at birth to reduce the number of people to feed. Hannya survived, but he could not return to the village so he wandered around like an animal until Aoshi found him and gave him a position in the Oniwabanshuu. Hannya is the master of disguise within the group, an ability he gained by removing all his prominent facial features, which is why he wears the demonic mask on his face. As Aoshi gave him something to live for in the Oniwabanshuu, he is very loyal to him, he even disfigured his face so that he could easily disguise himself as anyone and gives his life to allow Kenshin enough time to retrieve his sakabatou to defeat Kanryuu and save Aoshi. Hannya's style of combat evolves primarily from his discipline from Aoshi. However, he adds his own bit to it by having painted his arms in horizontal stripes, giving them the appearance of being shorter than they actually are, thus luring opponents into a false sense of security regarding distance of attacks.
